Rights & Permissions (R&P) sits within the Global Product Organisation and is responsible for managing intellectual property in compliance with best practices. Global Innovation & Services is a new team within Rights & Permissions that is tasked with developing and managing central and global functions in the management of rights and third-party licenses and facilitating a framework for standardising and simplifying ways of working. A focus of Global Innovation & Services is the effective management of change and communication to drive new ways of working within R&P and across the businesses and functions it serves. It does this by:
● Developing internal and external communications to support R&P initiatives and strategies
● Embedding change management principles in all projects and initiatives;
● Reviewing current ways of working to seek simplification and efficiency;
● Maintaining stakeholder maps to assess change impact;
● Ensuring changes are in keeping with the Pearson values of Brave, Decent, Imaginative and Accountable.
Role Description
Dealing with change and more importantly, the impact of change is a high priority for all organizations. Recognition of this has led to an exciting and new opportunity within R&P to manage a growing need to apply a strategic methodology to internal and external communications and to apply change management principles to key transformative initiatives.
Reporting directly to the Director, Global Innovation and Services, the Manager, R&P Communications & Change will be responsible for the following:
• Designing, implementing and managing a framework for internal and external communications using Neo (Pearson’s platform for communication) to facilitate organisational goals;
• Work with a network of colleagues at all levels to facilitate defined processes and channels for all forms of communication;
• Drafting and managing effective communications campaigns, both to internal and external stakeholders;
• Managing the R&P presence at internal events to convey message and brand;
• Coordinating training and informational modules/courses/programs as required on R&P topics for R&P staff and for key stakeholders and service providers;
• Applying change management principles to key R&P initiatives, through stakeholder impact analysis, change plans, communication forums, detailing the current state to the future state and identifying scale of change, ensuring success criteria are recorded and used as a measure to inform go/no go decision points;
• Manage a portfolio of change initiatives across R&P to help ensure any change is managed in full awareness of other initiatives, so that change fatigue is avoided and that full impact of any change is understood;
• Manage the transition of change in teams by identifying changes in processes, procedures and practices that are needed to achieve change and deliver planned benefits;
• Meet with staff impacted by change as required to identify potential problem areas and ensure that managers/staff have the necessary information to communicate changes;
• Work with similar colleagues in the wider organisation to ensure visibility of other change initiatives that may impact R&P;
• Provide a monthly report to the Director, Global Innovation & Services detailing key activity and progress and compile other reports as required.
Qualifications & Experience
● APMG/Prosci or equivalent certification in change management
● College Degree or equivalent experience
● Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a change management and/or communications role
● Experience and knowledge of change management principles communications methodologies
● A solid understanding of how people go through change and the change process
● Ability to problem solve and to motivate teams through complex changes
● Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to apply visual thinking to communications
● Analytical, creative and energetic
● Team player
● Proven record of leadership and success
