Job Description:
Dow Jones & Company, Inc. seeks a creative and entrepreneurial sales professional to join our Commercial Field Sales team. This role manages circulation sales relationships and growth for single-copy, amenity and education businesses in our Ohio Valley geographic region (IL, IN, OH, WV, KY,) on behalf of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Barron’s, the New York Post and other Dow Jones publications.
Job Responsibilities:
Single Copy:
-Expand single-copy print sales within the wholesaler/distributor network through targeted account base growth and development of sales initiatives to efficiently increase circulation volumes.
-Cultivate relationships with retailers to secure optimal product display, merchandising position and point-of-sale placement. Distribute POS, promotional materials as directed by national marketing.
-Monitor arrival times and operational efficiency in the wholesaler network to maximize sales.
-Review competitor activities; devise and recommend programs to counter or preempt competitor actions and respond to other marketplace changes that influence sales and market coverage.
Amenity:
• Secure full compliance with national brand standards for targeted hotels in territory. Create awareness of and ensure conformity with hotel's contracted requirements to provide WSJ as amenity.
• Sell new amenity deals among prospective properties in territory that don't already have national standards or profitable single copy operations. Includes print and digital offerings among hotels, airlines, conferences and related channels.
• Optimize sales with existing hotel properties via print and digital upsell of WSJ, as well as draw increases when print demand is high.
Education:
-Support site license activation and usage at designated universities via relationship building with Deans and department heads.
-Conduct on-site presentations to faculty, students, and other key campus groups to promote usage and understanding the value of WSJ digital products.
-Provide information about WSJ presence on campus as well as competitive information and field intelligence for the Education Sales Team.
Position Requirements:
-At least 5 years of consultative sales experience preferably in media, publishing, retail, and/or travel and education industries, with proven track record of success.
-College degree or equivalent work experience.
-Experience analyzing and strategically managing a geographic territory to realize maximum sales opportunities. Ability to manage multiple sales channels simultaneously and with proper balance.
-Excellent communication and organizational skills. Self-starter with ability to work independently as part of a national team of professionals.
-Intermediate skills in Google web-based applications (mail, docs, sheets, etc.), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Salesforce.com experience preferred.
