Responsibilities
The NBCUniversal television stations WMAQ (NBC) and WSNS (Telemundo) located in Chicago, Illinois are currently looking for a Manager of Information Technology. This position will lead a diverse technical team and will be the head of Information Technology for these television stations. This position is responsible for the short and long-term technology strategy and health of the station. This includes designing and maintaining the infrastructure, addressing security needs, providing desktop support, and other technology related duties. This position interacts directly with the end users, including sales, newsroom operations, and others all with varying priorities and needs.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Own the IT related activities and functions throughout the television stations.
Includes data center, infrastructure, storage, desktop support, telecom support, and others.
Lead and manage the IT technology team.
Includes setting appropriate priorities, distributing workloads, as well as tracking and resolving all technical issues.
Provides appropriate documentation and knowledge transfer of issues / problems.
Lead the IT strategy and architecture decisions for the television station. This includes collaborating with other technology teams outside the television stations, such as enterprise IT teams, divisional IT teams, other television stations, etc.
Have a strong understanding of networking technologies utilizing Cisco platforms.
Have a strong understanding of current server and storage technologies.
Provide excellent and timely customer service and support.
Provide support, through the IT systems and platforms, to the broadcast engineering teams to ensure on-air quality.
Lead efforts to ensure staff is properly trained and cross trained.
Effectively lead projects using project management best practices to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget, balancing varying priorities of simultaneous projects.
Streamline decision-making process and improve service delivery workflows.
Create and manage operational and capital budgets, including long range planning.
Be a professional and articulate, proactive communicator with a coaching and mentoring attitude.
Ability to solve complex problems and take action on decisions.
Qualifications/Requirements
Requirements:
Minimum of five (5) years in IT technology with progressing levels of responsibility.
Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
Proven understanding of asset management and digital distribution concepts; including but not limited to video servers and streaming.
Minimum of 3 years of coaching and mentoring other professionals; prefer experience in a formal people management role
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid knowledge of digital video editing, including file-based delivery, compression, transcoding and streaming.
Familiarity of a broadcast environment, maintaining complex systems such as automation, non-linear editing, newsroom computer systems, transcoding, etc.
Affinity for the understanding of the engineering and broadcast operations of a television station.
Understanding of newsroom workflow including media asset management.
Knowledge of Apple products, including Apple SAN, etc.

Six Sigma (including Lean)

Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL
