ADVERTISING BILLING OPERATIONS MANAGER
Responsibilities
• Manage centralized newspaper advertising billing operations and staff.
• Responsible for effective day to day transaction processing activity between local advertising operations and the central newspaper advertising billing team.
• Define advertising billing and accounting objectives and practices in conjunction with local Advertising leadership.
• Oversee the billing transaction processing activity from origination in local newspaper markets, to completion in centralized newspaper billing and accounting operations.
• Manage the financial architecture for the advertising system including the design, development and maintenance activity for rating, billing, and financial reporting.
• Oversee policy and procedure documentation, preparation and training of field personnel in workflow process, policy and procedures.
• Design, develop, implement, and maintain standardized policy and procedure for advertising billing transaction processing and revenue recording.
• Own service levels required to meet objectives and monitor and report on service delivery activity and performance.
• Revise services and performance management activity as required to meet business objectives and support decision making.
• Oversee exception handling activity for rate application, disputes, payments, and billing adjustments escalated from local newspapers.
• Participate and/or manage projects as assigned.
• Resolve revenue recognition, G/L recording, and balance sheet /AR reconciliation issues with General Accounting team.
• Manage a staff which includes the hiring, training, supervision, counseling, development and evaluation of employees.
• Ensure performance of tasks assigned for internal control compliance.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures and the Company’s Code of Ethics.
• Perform other job duties as required.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline preferred; or equivalent experience
Relevant Experience
• 3+ years experience in newspaper advertising accounting operations and prior supervisory experience
• Industry specific functional knowledge
• Strong financial analytical skills
• Solid understanding of financial concepts
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work well with all levels of management and associates
• Must possess strong attention to detail
• Ability to work well independently
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to lead projects with multiple team members, reaching out to multiple functions
• Proficient in Windows-based software
• Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet programs (Excel)
Work Conditions
• Estimated 15-25% business travel during transition and approximately 10-20% years thereafter
