The Role:
The VP Software Development is accountable to drive large-scale, high-profile strategic and operational initiatives inside the technology organization to increase operational efficiency, improve existing service delivery, and create new service models that add to Pearson’s strategic goals as well as competitive differentiation in the marketplace.
Portfolio delivery will be essential for this role, and will require leading cross-functional teams across the line of business and geographies to apply strategic frameworks, business process and org redesign, enabling functions, information and analytics, all to optimize Pearson’s business operations.
Additionally this role will be expected to develop organization wide policies for the Software Development team that develops the systems that align with the product group and chief architect's goals. This position will have full authority in the implementation of new policies. This role is responsible for the strategic development of software development plans and objectives that support the design, development and implementation of innovative software products using strong technical skill-set and creativity.
This role will work with wide latitude for un-reviewed action or decision making. It may determine methods and procedures on new assignment and thereby set new precedents. Through assessment of intangible variables, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues, providing strategy and direction for a major functional area.
Qualifications
What’s Required:
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required; MBA preferred 12+ years relevant experience (which includes management experience)
This role facilitates executive business management and the management of staff. It is a sensitive role that enables the CTO and Executive team to focus time on the growth of the company, and in support of such spends time troubleshooting and nurturing the daily needs of the technology organization to ensure the achievement of strategic initiatives and organizational harmony. This includes but is not limited to:
• Develops and authorizes the implementation of the software development activities that align with the product group and chief architect's goals
• Authorizes the implementation of the strategic plans and objects for the creation and implementation of the design, development and implement of software products
• Contribute collaboratively within a creative and fast paced environment, designing innovative solutions that are architecturally solid and scalable.
• Accountable for specifying, architecting, prototyping, implementing, and delivering adaptive learning applications
• Drive new feature development without requiring regular supervision.
• Works with Business Analysts to deliver configurable solutions
• Codes ,debugs and makes recommendation on software enhancements
• Formulate systems scope and objectives
• Participate in requirements gathering, definition and documentation
• Analyze and solve conceptual and complex problems/situations of a global nature
• Viewed as an influential leader
