DESCRIPTION:
The CBS News Associates Program is a 15-month, fast-track opportunity, specifically targeted to individuals who are interested in developing their news gathering and production skills.
The program is highly competitive, designed to identify outstanding aspiring journalists who can bring fresh and diverse insight to the areas of news production and news coverage. This program is not designed for people who wish to be on-air.
Associates rotate among a variety of television broadcasts and departments including The CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, CBS Newspath and the National Desk. Throughout each rotation each individual can develop skills in the areas of logging tapes, conducting research, assisting on shoots in the field, pitching stories, monitoring breaking news, operating camera equipment, writing scripts and social media.
Applicants are interviewed and admitted on a rolling basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Journalism, Broadcasting, or Production.
• Ability to work in New York, NY or Washington, DC.
• Ability to work weekends or overnight shifts.
Preferences:
• Prior experience with shooting and editing.
• Strong writing skills.
• News room experience, preferable to have interned at a local station or network.
