Introduction:
The Economist is one of the world’s most influential publications and a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs. It recently launched the Global Business Review (GBR), a bilingual app aimed at Chinese speakers offering business, finance and technology content. It is the first non-English language product in its 173 years history.
The Senior Marketing Manager, Global Business Review will report to the Director, Editorial Products, China and will bebased in Shanghai, China. The position will be responsible for initiating and implementing marketing programmes for GBR with a particular focus on partnerships which will develop and build readership to ultimately drive profitable growth for the region. He/she will manage agency partners and work collaboratively with cross functional teams including editorial, social media, digital acquisition, and product development.
Accountabilities:
In the role you would be expected to:
• Initiate, coordinate, and oversee all marketing activities for GBR in the China market that will build awareness, develop an audience, and deliver circulation revenue
• Manage the development and implementation of brand strategies, insights and country messaging framework, to communicate a compelling value proposition for current and prospective GBR readers in China
• Identify local market opportunities to build a dynamic, innovative partner ecosystem
• Lead development of partnership programmes to extend reach within target audience, including the negotiation of terms and ongoing relationship management
• Manage and track marketing budgets and ensure effective budget utilisation
• Ensure timely and appropriate communications and enablement on marketing progammes and campaigns
• Collaborate with Product Development in providing suggestions to improve product marketability in China
• Manage analytics and reporting for marketing activities while working closely with the Global Data team
• Continually monitor business performance and market trends to identify opportunities for growth, innovation and business improvements (e.g. pricing)
• Keep abreast of competitive landscape, both traditional and emerging media
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you must have:
• 6+ years of Commercial experience in brand and consumer marketing within China. International experience a plus.
• Written and spoken language proficiency in English and Mandarin
• Experience in building new business partnerships, including negotiation of deal terms and development of partnership programmes/proposals
• New product development or innovation experience in China desirable
• Extensive knowledge of the marketing technology landscape in China, including content distribution channels

• Ability to work within tight deadlines, adjust to changes in priorities and balance short term needs with long term strategic initiative
