Under direction of VP, Exec Director Marketing & Publicity, the Director of Marketing for Young Readersplans and develops marketing strategies and plans to promote all Children’s and Young Adult titles across all appropriate channels, including advertising, promotion, sales support, bookseller outreach and partnerships with sites and groups. The Director will work closely with publicity, social, sales, and editorial teams and serve as liaison with national and field sales reps, and provide outreach to key accounts.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Develop and manage comprehensive marketing campaigns across HMH children's book list. Works closely with authors and illustrators to develop and communicate plans.
• Create and execute plans helping to achieve revenue goals and support author relationships.
• Oversee all retail sales initiatives including advance materials and sell sheets; consumer print and online ad campaigns, and all bookseller conferences—Winter Institute and regionals.
• Directs preparation of sales tools and sales support materials, including catalogs and sell sheets.
• Manage the YR marketing budget.
The ideal candidate will possess most of the following characteristics and skills:
• A minimum of five years in publishing, with strong marketing background.
• An understanding and appreciation of marketing metrics and how those can improve effectiveness and accelerate learning.
• Ability to successfully work across departments/company.
• Strong managerial, communication, organizational and writing skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access), Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator and other design tool files.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
