POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Strategic Pricing will report directly to the Vice President, Global Business Operations. This position will function as a strategic lead in thinking through Blackboard’s overall approach to pricing as well as hands-on practitioner who will drive improved execution and operational excellence in pricing across the organization. This individual will evolve Blackboard’s strategy for pricing for the entire portfolio of products / services / solutions. Additionally, this role will be responsible for improving Bb’s overall pricing processes, systems, and compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include:
Strategic pricing capabilities:
• Establish pricing based on a comprehensive approach, including customer’s perceived value / price sensitivity, pricing history, competitor pricing, cost to acquire and serve, etc.
• Coordinate the collection and validation of relevant information from across the organization, including stakeholders from strategy, finance, product management, client services, product marketing, business ops, sales, legal, etc.
• Combine business logic, rigorous analysis, and strategic perspective to develop pricing recommendations.
• Synthesize analysis and present recommendations to senior management in an effective way to aid executives in making investment decisions.
• Work closely with Blackboards’s internal financial and operational teams and sources to interpret data to drive financial projections and pricing models.
• Exercise solid, logical business judgment in the development of assumptions to inform the costs, revenues, and other operational inputs for the pricing of new products or the application of existing products to new clients, channels, and offer environments.
• Apply external market knowledge, internal and external client context and history as a key lens to inform pricing decisions.
• Accumulate pricing knowledge over time to drive increasingly valuable business insights.
• Identify, execute and manage specific initiatives to further the company's ability to effectively price products / services / solutions. Examples of such initiatives include:
◦ Improve understanding of price sensitivity and impact of discounting on win/loss rates.
◦ Analyze the trade-off between product attributes and demand.
◦ Review corporate margin requirements in the context of competitive and market constraints.
◦ Analyze effectiveness of past pricing decisions.
Pricing management:
• Lead operational oversight of pricing strategy implementation, management, and tracking.
• Collaborate with various stakeholder groups to identify areas for pricing process improvement including business process re-design and system/structure support to deliver pricing updates effectively.
• Identify and implement improvements in analytical techniques and data infrastructure to improve the quality of pricing decisions.
• Drive operational excellence initatives to increase pricing model effectiveness
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Bachelor's degree required
• 5-10 years of total business experience and 4-5 years in global pricing of enterprise software, services, and solution bundles.
• Experience with global / multi-currency pricing, and working with different GTM models – direct sales, channel partners, etc.
• Business experience working in an analytic capacity in fields such as management consulting, marketing analytics, pricing analytics, or financial analysis.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Excel.
• Strong analytical skills including familiarity with statistical techniques.
• Ability to interact with senior management; strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to synthesize information into key messages appropriate for the audience.
• Intellectual curiosity and interest in using data to drive decisions.
PREFFERED SKILLS:
• MBA strongly preferred.
• Knowledge or experience in the education technology industry.
