Harper Design is looking for a highly motivated Editor who is as creative and bold as our books. Responsibilities:
• Acquire lead-level titles with critical and bestselling potential.
• Shepherd manuscripts through the production process from concept to bound copy: edit and copyedit manuscripts, work with design to create marketable packages, read layouts for editorial content and review for design structure and consistency.
• Work directly and negotiate contracts with authors and agents as well as with book packagers and publishers on coeditions.
• Work with the marketing and publicity groups to develop marketing and promotional plans.
• Obtain production quotes, run profit and loss statements, prepare acquisitions materials.
• Write fact sheet, jacket, and catalog copy; review all marketing materials.
• Present titles at various sales meetings.
Qualifications:
• At least 3 years of editorial and acquisitions experience within the publishing industry
• Proven experience in acquiring and publishing multiple profitable and/or critically viable projects
• Established relationships with agents and industry colleagues
• Great negotiation skills
• Strong speaking and writing skills
• Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively
• Strong understanding and awareness of general marketplace and relevant market segments within industry
