The Barnes & Noble Summer Internship program is designed to provide students with the exciting opportunity to apply their education in a “real-life” professional setting, while gaining valuable industry experience and transferable skills. This will be a paid 10 week program, in which Interns will partner with Mentors on accomplishing impactful company projects. The program will begin on June 5th and end on August 11th.
Department/Position Overview:
The Marketing Intern will support the marketing team’s efforts, playing a key role in executing email marketing campaigns to drive incremental online and store sales. He or she will also gain an inside look into our direct mail and promotions processes.
Position Responsibilities:
• Support elements of the email, direct mail, and cross-channel marketing processes
• Manage product sample inventory by obtaining and logging samples from merchant partners, and preparing samples and product images for creative briefs and photo shoots
• Participate in building and printing detailed wireframes for creative briefs, transforming submissions from the Merchandizing teams into a cohesive blueprint for an email
• Participate in creative briefs between Marketing and Creative teams to help strategize email designs
• Participate in testing and QA process with Marketing, Operations, Production, and Merchandising teams
• Support marketing optimization by reporting on email campaign performance
• Maintain the Marketing Gallery with visuals of upcoming emails
• Ad hoc projects and responsibilities may be assigned, such as:
◦ Assist with the capture of marketing metrics for a post-mortem campaign analysis
◦ Monitor marketing channels for future campaign ideas
◦ Compile examples of marketing embodying best practices
Position Requirements:
• Students must have HS Diploma or GED and must be enrolled as at least rising Junior in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program, or enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree program
• Must be available to work a 40 hour workweek, Monday through Friday
• Interest in marketing and communications
• Strong attention to detail, organization, time-management, and prioritization skills
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
• Knowledgeable in social media platforms
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft programs, particularly in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

◦ Internal content management systems for tracking email dates and email creative
◦ Email service provider Epsilon Harmony for gathering reporting on campaign performance

• How to link your coursework to a workplace experience
• Understand the basic target marketing for Barnes & Noble products
• Further develop your interpersonal skills through communications with the Marketing, Operations, Production, and Merchandising teams
