The Knopf Publishing Group seeks a dynamic, creative, and organized individual to join as their Advertising Director, reporting to the SVP, Associate Publisher. As a key member of the marketing team for the Knopf, Pantheon & Schocken imprints, this individual plays an essential role in helping to shape and execute the marketing, creative, and digital outreach of those imprints.
Responsibilities include:
• Collaborating with the AP and marketing team on title campaigns
• Directing and designing creative work, including print, digital, sweepstakes and email campaigns, television and radio advertising, copy writing and related tasks.
• Leading and managing a small team of designers, as well as developing creative guidelines for best practices.
• Bringing new ideas and presenting opportunities to team
• Managing advertising budget
• Negotiating vendor relations, including ad contracts, rates and placement
• Tracking, analyzing and optimizing campaign metrics
• Trafficking ads
Qualifications include:
• Minimum 5-7 years’ experience working in design and marketing
• Design expertise in print and digital advertising, layout, design copy writing & proof reading
• An understanding of the Knopf, Pantheon & Schocken imprints and their aesthetics
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat), Microsoft Office programs and Basecamp
• Candidate should be proactive and exceptionally organized, able to meet deadlines, have strong management skills, and apply careful attention to detail
• Experience working and negotiating with outside vendors, establishing contracts and negotiating placement
• Excellent leadership and communication skills interacting with clients and internal staff alike
• Self-motivated, able to prioritize, and can work independently as well as in a team
• Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Trade book marketing experience a plus
