Responsibilities
The Director of Digital Technology Products will be an integral part of an exciting new “Digital Transformation and Innovation” team being formed within Universal Pictures’ Technology Office.
As the Director of Digital Technology Products, you will have a successful track record of breaking down complex business ideas and delivering technology solutions. You will manage a small team who will work collaboratively with senior executives at the film studio to define and prototype digital product ideas, setting them up for success using strict agile product management disciplines.
Great products come from great collaborations, and you’ll need to partner with engineers, designers, researchers and operators to create impactful products for our customers, partners and business leaders.
The studio will depend on you to innovate, invent, develop and validate ideas, providing a path to scale successful projects either using NBCUniversal’s central technology teams, dedicated resources allocated on a case-by-case basis or open-source initiatives backed by industry consortiums.
The position reports to the VP Technology Partnerships and has direct reports.
Job Duties
You will set the standard for how digital products are conceived and developed. You will create a “Center of Excellence” and results driven reputation within the film studio. You will live and breathe by the idea of winning from experimentation, failing fast and learning. You will evangelize agile practices, lean design and development methodologies.
You will lead a highly qualified lean product engineering team, who will support multiple in-flight prototypes across the business. You will enable teams to be successful by removing obstacles and developing strategic relationships throughout the business.
You will champion a data-driven and market-informed product visions and a strategy that supports the studio’s long range plans.
Starting with a minimum viable product developed by your team, you will validate project assumptions using pre-determined KPIs. In success, you will create the end-to-end product lifecycle through to launch, tapping into the multiple central technology resources across NBCUniversal, resources specifically allocated by the business sponsor or open-source projects backed by industry standards groups.
You will have lots of ambitious ideas and the judgment to identify which ones are worth pursuing. You will effectively design project plans based on priorities while setting clear, measurable objectives and deploying team resources appropriately to achieve business goals.
You will write product requirements documents and consult on complex product specifications while accounting for design challenges and external dependencies.
You will develop and measure product KPIs, derive key insights, drive reporting tools, and devise and execute experiments and multivariate tests to find product solutions.
You will promote cross-team and cross-organizational knowledge sharing through multiple forums, presentations, tech talks, design reviews and workshops.
Qualifications/Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5-9 years of experience in product management; consumer mobile or web product experience required.
Previous start-up, media, social networking and/or software consulting experience a strong plus.
You have a keen interest and follow the latest developments in in the media space, from chat bots and conversational commerce on Facebook, to computer vision experiments using artificial intelligence, immersive VR / AR and audio interfaces.
You have an in-depth understanding of the technical and operational requirements of projects and products, speaking the language of APIs, caching layers, databases and pull requests.
You can confidently design wireframes, create functional product specifications, and build testing strategies that multiple audiences can follow.
You have exceptional data analytics skills, and able to retrieve and dissect data with tools such as Google Analytics. Previous experience with SQL and database architectures.
You are clear, concise and have a persuasive communication style that encourages action.
You enjoy working with high performing, cross-functional teams and are an extraordinary communicator in every medium — from Slack to video conferencing to in-person gatherings.
You have a unique ability to train and motivate teams with varying levels of experience.
You can confidently present to executive stakeholders.
Experience managing priorities with third party vendors and key partners. Comfortable making build versus buy recommendations based on industry knowledge.
BA/BS degree in a STEM related field preferred, but experience and references will lead the conversation.
