Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.
We are seeking a Marketing Manager to join our Customer Marketing team (Journals, End-user) to cover a maternity leave for approximately 6 months.
The successful candidate must be extremely well organised, innovative and analytical individual with excellent copy writing skills. Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, the Marketing Manager will develop and implement marketing strategy for a portfolio of Nature branded journals, including high profile new launch titles. It is a varied, fast-paced position that requires juggling multiple tasks and priorities on a daily basis.
Key Tasks:
• Work closely with publishing to develop and launch new journals including; developing the brand, creating innovative marketing concepts that can be implemented across channels and conduct appropriate research to launch into market.
• Develop the marketing strategy and implement integrated marketing plans though a variety of channels including (but not limited to) social media, email, direct mail, conferences, events and advertising.
• Collaborate and present activity to relevant departments.
• Monitor effectiveness of marketing campaigns, reporting on these regularly; deliver against goals and develop a culture of continuous improvement.
• Monitor and manage the invoicing/budget for the subject portfolio. Ensure marketing budget is spent effectively and efficiently to meet objectives.
• Monitor developments in the wider STM and publishing environment and proactively develop knowledge of key competitors, their products, forthcoming products, sales, and marketing activity; as well as customer experience.
• Develop knowledge of our customer base; undertaking subject area research
• Organise exhibition stands and represent Nature Research by attending key academic conferences and events.
• Line management of an Assistant Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator.
Experience:
• 5+ years marketing experience in STM industry (preferably within an academic or professional publishing background).
• Experience of building and managing relationships with colleagues at different levels of seniority.
• Proven experience in strategic planning, implementing innovative and results driven campaigns.
• Managing budgets and cost control.
• People management skills.
The successful candidate will be:
• Creative and innovative with excellent copy writing skills.
• Aware of global marketing trends and techniques and a commitment to developing marketing best practice
• Organised; self motivated; able to balance priorities; able to demonstrate a calm and professional approach when working to deadlines: a can do attitude
• Have excellent communication skills (written and verbal; awareness of building strong and effective working relationships both internally and externally)
• Able to deliver confident, appropriate and engaging presentations.
• Highly analytical and with strong numerical skills.
• Effective in handling complexity, change and challenge in the external and corporate environments.
• Proficient in web analytics.
This position is based in our New York office.
