Principal Windows Engineer

DESCRIPTION:
The Principal Windows Engineer will be the senior-most technical person on the Windows Operations team, and will be heavily engaged in assisting the Sr. Manager of Windows Operations with projects and the management and maintenance of the CBS Corporate Windows server environment. This person will need to have both deep technical knowledge in Windows and related infrastructure technologies as well as have organizational skills around process and procedure.
Responsibilities:
• Provide advanced support for the Windows server environment, with a focus on root cause analysis to resolve repeating issues from both a technical and procedural perspective.
• Work with the leadership team to build roadmaps and strategies around the Windows server platform to advance capabilities, resiliency and security.
• Create automation and orchestration workflows using scripts and tools to increase efficiency, and enhance services.
• Work with engineering teams to design and develop solutions, build servers and configure software and features.
• Conduct Proof of Concepts for emerging technologies and present recommendations to design team and managemen.t
• Monitor the ticket queues to maintain SLAs.
• Identify opportunities to enhance operational workflows in support of the CBS enterprise infrastructure.
• Participate in on-call rotation; will require after-hours and occasional weekend work to implement patches and/or perform system maintenance.
• Prepare and maintain configuration documentation and server inventory.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Undergraduate degree in Information Systems or other technology related discipline - equivalent work experience acceptable.
• 10+ years of experience in a Windows server administration role, demonstrated career growth and increase in responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies and implement advanced solutions at a rapid pace.
• Ability to lead, triage and troubleshoot in a complex vendor infrastructure stack.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot issues and provide timely resolution.
• Demonstrates constant consideration of risks and impacts especially with regards to changes such as security patching (i.e., change management).
• Experience working with teams in different timezones, both onshore and offshore, and mentoring/training team members to enhance processes and procedures.
• Experience with enterprise procedures for security patches, functional patches and version upgrades.
• Expert in Windows server technologies including Active Directory, DHCP, file sharing, DNS, DFS.
• Expert in common Windows scripting languages and methodologies, such as batch, VBScript or PowerShell.
• Expert knowledge of the VMware architecture, including ESX hypervisors, vCenter, SRM, VDI, vRealize Operations and Automation, PowerCLI, VMware API's, including the VMware Infrastructure SDK and vSphere Management SDK.
• Expert in the design, deployment, management and use of a server automation system to control large quantities of servers for patch management, inventory, software deployment, etc.
• Preferred experience with Microsoft SCCM or IBM BigFix.
• Deomonstrated ability in using automation to control environments, e.g., PowerShell DSC, Chef, Puppet.
• Demonstrated experience supporting single or multi-cloud environments, including the design, migration, and/or support of pure and hybrid infrastructures.
• Preferred experience with AWS, Azure, or Google.
• LaS (Lift/Shift), IaaS, PaaS.
• Expert in the design, deployment, management and use of a server based computing and virtual desktop environment used to publish applications and virtualized desktops.
• Preferred experience with Citrix MetaFrame, Presentation Server, XenApp or XenDesktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services or VMware Horizon View.
• Broad experience across other infrastructure areas, such as networking (LAN / WAN / TCP/IP), storage (Fabric, Block, NAS, Object), database (SQL).
