The Temporary Editorial Assistant is responsible for overseeing the publishing process, from putting information into the database to liaising with authors to preparing proposals and contracts, handling invoices, sending out complementary book copies, finding reviewers, and more. The ideal candidate will be efficient, flexible and able to prioritize, organize and coordinate work assignments. Other responsibilities include helping with travel arrangements, tracking the progress of projects, coping with issues raised by other departments, occasionally attending conferences and manning exhibits. Responsibilities may include but may not be limited to:
• Becoming proficient at using company editorial databases and other company electronic systems and processes for a variety of tasks, including preparing of proposals, preparing manuscripts for production, completing all forms to be circulated internally, preparing draft contracts and contract requests, fixing content mistakes on our websites, doing Internet searches to find authors, reviewers, or market studies
• Interacting with Springer authors/editors to assist in the acquisition of and preparation of manuscripts
• Soliciting of peer reviews for manuscripts and signed projects as needed or as directed by editor
• Arranging for payment of authors and series editors, arranging of distribution of complimentary book copies, handling invoices of freelancers and consultants
• Acting as liaison between authors, production, marketing, fulfillment, and royalty departments, as needed
• Occasional reviewing and evaluating book manuscripts as needed; preparing proposals for presentation to stakeholders
• Preparation of exhibit lists and liaising with conference organizers
• Preparing travel reimbursements and other administrative work
• Perform related duties as required
Job requirements:
• College background required -- Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred
• 1-2 years' experience in related editorial or administrative capacity
• Must be well-organized and attentive-to-detail
• Exposure MS office and databases preferred.
