The Food Innovation Group is looking for a Communications Director to drive the media relations efforts for Bon Appétit, Epicurious, and FIG’s advertising partnerships. This role will establish a media communications strategy to raise awareness of the brands, the content, the advertising programs, the profiles of the editor in chief and the chief business officer, and the business and editorial initiatives for all of the Food Innovation Group’s platforms, properties, and brand extensions. To do this job, you’re going to need to be able to get on with everyone, maintain great relationships, exercise excellent judgment, and prioritize multiple needs, asks, and opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Responsible for the industry media relations activities in support of the brand’s business and editorial development goals
● Collaborate with executives to increase the Food Innovation Group's reach, leverage assets, and ensure brand continues to evolve and innovate
● Add value to large-scale advertiser program proposals and executions with custom press strategies
● Forge initiatives/partnerships that will secure sponsorship, revenue, and media coverage
● Advise on considerations and implications of new projects, and implement/facilitate progress and development
● Carry a strong understanding of Bon Appétit & Epicurious content and standards to craft messaging, and secure coverage consistent with appropriate brand and voice through various promotional outlets
● Be a leader in emerging technology and social media channels to best advise on optimal platforms for press initiatives
● Work directly with Editor in Chief, Chief Business Officer, executives, senior staff/editors on crafting, pitching and promoting all media opportunities and other external communications
● Coordinate all outside speaking engagements on behalf of the brand for EIC, Chief Business Officer, editors etc
● On the record spokesman on behalf of the brand
● Work closely with EIC and Chief Business Officer to develop short-‐term and long-‐term comprehensive media strategies for all the Food Innovation Group initiatives and partnerships
● Work with VP Corporate Communications, and other CN Leadership, to ensure that EIC’s brand vision is represented in any CN corporate events, initiatives, and press opportunities where relevant
● Work closely with special events department to craft, or assist on, press strategy for all EIC’s outside events
● Produce written materials including press releases, statements, briefing material for the editors, chief business officers, and executives, and pitch letters for media
● Oversee communication between brand and CN Corporate
● Serve as main point of contact for all staff as it relates to PR matters both externally and internally
● Establish, and maintain, relationships with important figures in media landscape
● Work closely with brand marketing and corporate consumer marketing teams to maximize subscription revenue, vet potential partnerships, find new areas of traffic to digital properties, and contribute to overall business growth
● Work with industry associations and brand partners on events, initiatives, and press strategy that secure and increase brand awareness
What we’d like to see from applicants:
● 8 or more years of progressive experience in modern communications
● A deep understanding of the digital media landscape
● Excellent writing, communication, and social media skills
● Fluency working in all relevant social media channels
● Experience pitching and managing placement of stories in local, national, and international media outlets
● The ability to quickly build relationships in a flat, collaborative workplace
● Be able to get shit done and work under tight deadlines
● Someone who prefers taking the initiative to being told what to do
Established relationships with advertising trade media and fluency in design, marketing, and technology
