Position Summary
Gannett is seeking an Associate Project Manager to join our Data Solutions team focused on new initiatives for Gannett’s media outlets as well as the following:
• The Data Solutions team implements Big Data and data warehouse solutions to support our digital and print strategies and operations.
• In addition, Data Solutions databases and services support the management of our digital users and their profiles for use by our more than 300 reader-facing products.
Responsibilities
As an Associate Project Manager, you will work directly with the department Development Managers as well as their key stakeholders. Responsibilities will include:
• Project Organization and Coordination – Assisting the Development Managers with project organization and reporting, facilitating daily standups helping development teams communicate, mark progress against the project schedule and roadmap, and facilitating project execution.
• Cross-Functional Team Communication – Create positive relationships and maintain open lines of communication with team members and stakeholders external to Data Solutions.
• Project Support – Enabling and ensuring the success of our projects by assuming responsibility for project support tasks that allow the team members to focus on project development and progress towards on-time milestone delivery.
Our Expectations
An Associate Project Manager should be able to draw upon their past experience to work effectively as both an integrated team member and also as an independent member of our team. As such we are looking for:
• An understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle and how to manage projects using Agile methodologies including 2+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Project Manager or Developer Working knowledge of Scrum or other iterative development methodology, as well as supporting tooling
• Great communication, both written and oral Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred – preferably in a technical discipline – but compensating technical experience may be considered Balanced background consisting of both business and technical knowledge.
• Must have a sufficient level of technical background with an interest and willingness to learn new technologies and tools Detail-oriented and organized, yet flexible and adaptable to the changing priorities of our organization Self-reliant and collaborative nature.
• Due to the fast pace of our projects, our ideal candidate would be able to both work independently and intuitively be able to recognize where help is needed, but also work well in a team setting.
Additional Considerations
We'd be delighted if you also had experience with any of the following:
• JIRA and Confluence Project management software, such as MS Project Working with and developing for media-related websites or publishers
• Exposure to, or interest in, databases and big data technologies
