Are you a cooking enthusiast with journalistic aspirations, a sense of humor, and a lot of creative zeal? Maybe you’d like to be a summer intern at TASTE (tastecooking.com), an online cooking magazine that’s part of the Penguin Random House family. The summer internship program is an opportunity to be part of a small team and learn about both cookbook publishing and food journalism. You will work closely with TASTE’s editor in chief and senior editor and get a glimpse into all of the machinery behind running a food publication.
Requirements:
• Strong research and writing skills
• Strong copy editing skills
• Familiarity with Wordpress or similar content management systems
• A love of cooking and cookbooks
• Photoshop/InDesign skills are a plus
• A sharp eye for good photography and illustrations
• Familiarity with all of the major food publications and a finger on the pulse of food media
Responsibilities:
• Entering features and recipes into Wordpress
• Assisting the editors with research for features
• Generating ideas for features and columns
• Writing occasional pieces about recipes and cooking
• Helping to revamp the TASTE recipe archives, editing copy and adding photos as needed
• Helping to develop content for social media and newsletters
• Keeping up-to-date on new and upcoming cookbooks from all of the major book publishers
• Attending editorial meetings to discuss pitches and ideas for upcoming projects
• Attending occasional TASTE events and help out with some of the logistics
