Job Purpose:
The Senior Manager for Global Network Engineering will report to the Director of Solution Engineering and will be accountable for the functional management, strategy and direction of the team, management and development of the resources, engagement of the key stakeholder groups and continuous improvement of the underpinning standards and processes that support delivery.
The key outcomes of this role are:
• Establish the value proposition of GNE and the strategy to ensure it remains relevant as Pearson’s approach to the network changes and develops
• Effective collaboration and working relationships with the key interfacing groups (e.g. Network Ops, SE), evidenced by successful cross functional processes and handoffs
• Team development addressing technical cross-skilling, SPOFs, and people management
• Successful operation within the TechOps pipeline process
• Success criteria and visible measurements for network engineering project delivery
Scope:
• Scope is global
• Significant interaction with the cross TechOps teams and with other Technology and business partners
About you
1. Background & Attributes
A background in engineering and functional/team management is needed for this role along with the following attributes:
• High energy and activity levels
• Customer focus, active listening and communication capabilities
• Ability to engage people from a multitude of cultural backgrounds, fostering collaboration and a desire to achieve a shared outcome
• Attention to detail, a genuine passion for getting things right first time, allied to a real focus on delivery

1. Skills, qualifications and experience:
In order to be effective in this role you will need to have the following skills and experience:
• Demonstrable understanding of how to build a strategy with global reach, and roadmap requirements and activities to achieve end state goals
• Understanding and practical experience of how work moves through a complex pipeline and translates to usable consolidated outputs
• Previous accountability for significant functional delivery activities in a technical engineering environment, with a demonstrable track record of success that you can evidence in a competency based interview
• Practical understanding of lean process engineering and a strong understanding of operations imperatives and underpinning activities
• Previous engineering people management and development experience
• Experience of achieving consensus through facilitating a collaborative planning process
• Significant delivery track record, setting clear targets and driving progress through KPIs and other empirical measures
• Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, to effectively summarise issues, bottlenecks and challenges and provide considered and logical recommendations for addressing them
• Experience of working in an environment with multiple handoffs and team interactions
• CCNP and CCIE qualifications preferred
