Job Title Associate Art Director - The Magnolia Journal
I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
Works with Magnolia creative team to lead art direction of 4 issues of The Magnolia Journal per year. Collaborates with Meredith and Magnolia staff to execute fresh, innovative design and technically outstanding photography and illustration solutions that align with Magnolia brand aesthetics and Meredith quality standards. Meets all production deadlines and executes products within allocated budgets. Builds and manages a network of acceptable freelance contributors. Works with Meredith Content Center to manage image quality and color proof process. Serves as primary art contact for Advertising, Circulation, Production, and other Meredith corporate partners.
II. Essential Job Functions

75 Works with Senior Editor and Magnolia creative team to lead planning and execution of all photography, illustration, and design for 4 issues per year of The Magnolia Journal.
15 Serves as primary art contact for other Meredith corporate partners, including Advertising, Circulation, and Production. Facilitates review/approvals of collateral materials with Magnolia editorial team.
10 Attend trade shows, promotional events, and other duties as assigned.

Education:
Four-year degree in Graphic Design, Publication Design, Art, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years print publication design experience, including significant art and photo direction experience, preferably in national consumer-focused lifestyle magazines with home, garden, and/or food focus. Expert-level Adobe Creative Suite knowledge, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Keen understanding of photography lighting, composition, and technical standards for print.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to provide art and photography direction and direct other contributors.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with precise but always-evolving brand aesthetics.
Extreme attention to detail and consistency of work, with a special focus on composition and typography.
Ability to communicate and respond to clear verbal and written ideas.
Must be professional in working with all levels of personnel and management.
