Introduction:
Currently, the Thought Leadership (TL) division of The Economist is offering an exciting internship opportunity in Singapore. TL interns function like entry-level staff members—they don’t make copies, fetch coffee or answer phones. Interns work closely with TL’s editors and have the opportunity to work on live projects and contribute to research reports that will help advance their careers. TL’s internship program is competitive. We look for interns who have a profound interest in journalism, research and/or technology. The intern's time will be split across a range of projects including: a barometer assessing how good cities are at supporting companies efforts to become digital; and the creation of a comprehensive online resource for executives to help them manage disruption.
Accountabilities:
In the role you would be expected to:
• Perform a range of tasks depending on the research projects needs
• Undertake desk research to identify related research and potential interviewees
• Set-up interviews
• Assist with management of online advisory board
• Coordinate local film crews for interviews
• Write, proof or fact-check reports (not essential, but possible for someone with the right skill set)
• Manage creative content—working with designers to create project website, infographics and motion graphics for video
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in the role you must have:
• Work experience or previous internship in journalism/research or the technology sector; preferred but not required
• Good communication skills, both written and oral and an attention to detail
• Good digital skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (required); knowledge of Adobe Creative suite and video/motion graphics creation is an advantage
To succeed in the role you will be able to demonstrate:
• A profound interest in journalism, research and/or technology
• The ability to prioritise and be organised
• Creativity and a flexible work style
• The ability to be a self-starter who can take direction and contribute ideas
