We are currently seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to the VP/ Co-Publisher and Executive Editor in the Balzer + Bray imprint. Balzer + Bray publishes bold, creative, groundbreaking picture books and novels for children and teens and is committed to diversity.
Responsibilities:
• Provides administrative and editorial support to VP/Co-Publisher and Executive Editor.
• Opens and sorts mail, drafts memos and correspondence, makes travel arrangements and appointments, maintains and updates files and records, answers telephones and takes messages as needed and prepares expense reports and processes invoices.
• Reads and evaluates submissions and drafts rejection letters.
• Monitors the book production schedule for manager’s titles– prepares and traffics transmittals, coordinates legal reviews (if necessary), and secures permissions for text and art.
• Manages information flow and department’s communication with authors, agents and other team members.
• Drafts jacket copy, assists with fact sheets, and reviews marketing material.
• Reads behind managers and provides detailed feedback on select titles.
• Conducts sales research; drafts P&Ls, contract requests, and check requests.
Qualifications:
• 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
• Excellent communication and literary analysis skills
• Exceptional writing skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must have an understanding and awareness of children’s books and the industry
• Interest in popular culture and diversity needs for children and teens
