Penguin Young Readers is looking for an Associate Director, Events and Brand Partnerships. This position will be responsible for developing and overseeing the strategy for nationwide author programming for the Publicity Department via multiple channels including the cultivation of partnerships with leading brands for select Penguin author and franchise events; programing at book festivals, bookseller trade shows, comic-cons, and speakers’ series; and creative event production for select author tours, and other public event opportunities.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a results-oriented, hardworking, ambitious, self-starter who challenges assumptions and thinks big. We work in a fun, collaborative environment that celebrates creativity and the power of the written word. This position will report to the Vice President, Publicity.
Key Relationships & Communication
• Brand Partnerships: Pursue and foster relationships with key brands with a goal of securing partnerships for select author and franchise tours and events.
• External Event Coordinators – Manage relationships with external event contacts including retailer accounts, festival and comic-con coordinators, special venue event planners and trade show heads.
• Marketing – Collaborate with Marketing to create assets and interactive games/experiences at bookstore, festival, Comic-Con and trade show events
Responsibilities
• Oversee strategy for author appearances at Book Expo and BookCon, book festivals, Comic-Cons and regional trade shows.
• Develop brand partnerships and non-traditional event opportunities for select, marquee Penguin authors and franchises.
• Drive the development of new, unique and creative author events in stores, at book festivals and in non-traditional event spaces.
• Identify and pursue author event opportunities with nontraditional event spaces.
• Consult with publicists on event framework and production for select Penguin authors and franchises.
• Manage all author event related processes internally for the Publicity Department.
• Co-manage one assistant.
Requirements
• 7 or more years’ experience working with brand partnerships and/or in the event space
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail
• Proven track record building brand partnerships; relationships with brands and agencies
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment
• Strong follow-up skills
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
