Responsibilities
Position Overview:
The Head of TV Physical Production is the general manager of the newly combined DreamWorks and Universal Film Entertainment TV Animation studio and is responsible for the creation and implementation of a production pipeline that delivers against the business strategy. The Head of TV Physical Production is a large comprehensive production role working with both new and existing intellectual property (IP) at high volume capacity. The Executive is responsible, not only for delivering quality programming, but also managing a robust team of production and creative staff with a constant flow of high volume, multi-faceted projects. The goal is to deliver quality programming in accordance with creative goals, budget targets, and delivery schedules as set by the Head of Television. Critical to the success of the role, the Executive will have a strong understanding of TV animation and the global landscape, including viable third party studios, a network of strong external relationships, and an exceptional business acumen. In addition to being responsible for robust budgets in 2D and 3D animation, the Head of Physical Production is charged with maintaining a positive work culture that fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and pride in best-in-class results.
Responsibilities:
Production Strategy:
• Develops production scenarios that take into account both global and domestic studio perspectives and ensures that such scenarios are reasonable and attainable
• Resource planning of personnel, technology, space, etc.
• Partners with Development to create production plans that support creative goals while balancing business needs
• Oversees Production Management across all series: budget writing, schedules, cost reports, etc.
• Monitors the execution of plans and progress of individual production departments against the plan
• Solution oriented approach to solving internal and external resource management
Production Management:
• Approves design of budget and ensures budgets across all TV series are maintained accordingly
• Develops and implements a variety of budget scenarios when needed (working within the box, while thinking outside the box)
• Delivery of shows on time and on budget
• Ensures key art and assets for Post, Press, CP & Marketing deliver within the standards and guidelines established by marketing and our clients
Resource Management:
• Handles resource management for evolving schedules / transitions
• Responsible for below-the line staffing of TV productions
• Evaluates and approves casting of all Senior Level Producers
• Sets salary guidelines for all visual key talent
• Establishes recruiting targets and guides strategy
Outside Studio Relations:
• Creates, fosters, and maintains relationships with outside animation studios worldwide
• Assesses outside studio’s ability to deliver within budget and creative goals
• Leverages tax incentives world-wide
• Continually assesses production pipeline, having a “Plan B” at all times, to ensure consistent delivery of quality animation from partner studio
• Demonstrates strong leadership skills to help gauge when “Plan B” is needed and to take action accordingly
Internal Studio Partners:
• Sets direction for production training for all TV series
• Attends weekly staff meetings with Head of Television and Creative Heads
• Attends Development Staffing meetings led by Recruiting
• Meets with AT weekly to discuss updates when needed to resolve AT/production issues
• Meets with HR weekly to discuss updates and resolve issues
• Meets with Facilities and Legal weekly
• Leads Monday “LP All Hands” meeting
• Collaborates with Human Resources to foster and maintain internal TV culture in a competitive landscape
Qualifications/Requirements
• Minimum of 10+ of years of experience in an Executive Senior Production or Production Management role within TV Animation
• Strong relationships with international TV Animation Studios and an understanding of tax treaties/credits world wide
Desired Characteristics

• Have solid project management experience, including expert scheduling and budgetary ability
• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all personality types
• Proven ability to work effectively in a high pressure, fast paced environment
• International travel required
