Job Title:
Hamilton County Towns Reporter Reports to: Suburban Editor Business Unit: Enquirer Media Department: News I. Job Purpose: Researches, reports, writes and helps create compelling text and multimedia journalism that continuously serves the audience in key Hamilton County communities. Develops relationships with sources, citizens, experts and others in order to provide unique insight into the impact of decisions, activity and events on readers and communities. Makes it a mission to inform and engage readers through immediacy, enterprise reporting and riveting storytelling. Acts as a public ambassador through community outreach and connects with influencers and engaged readers through social media. Provides thoughtful analysis of complex issues. Works with the suburban editor, video coach, storytelling coach, engagement editor and others to shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests on every platform. II. Key
Responsibilities:
• Creates a deep base of contacts to maintain a flow of news, information and tips from which to create a balanced news report on a particular towns-level topic or issue that is of interest to a local audience. 40%
• Creates text and video storytelling that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics. Works toward becoming the leading voice in spotlighting issues, needs and successes in particular communities. 30%
• Connects with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media, Facebook Live, forums, community leadership, etc.). 10 %
• Pays special attention to the issues and trending topics impacting how the topic or issue plays a role in the audience’s lives. 10%
• Works with suburban editor to evaluate what's reaching the audience and what's not, and develops plans to better satisfy audience needs. 5% Collaborates with other content creators to provide all the appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos,videos and graphics). 5%
• Other duties as assigned.
III. Accountabilities: The towns reporter is a member of the Suburban Team and reports to Suburban Editor. Collaboration key with producers, video coach, engagement editor, fellow towns reporters and the Real-Time Desk.
