Responsibilities
The Senior Programmer Analyst is responsible for supporting a portfolio of applications including enhancements, upgrades, patches and ongoing technical support for the Universal Parks Technology (UPT) Operations, Team Member Systems area within the UPT Department. As a vital contributor within this team, this role will be responsible for ongoing support, upgrades and migrations for both existing and new incoming applications and technologies used within Universal Parks and Resorts.
The Senior Programmer Analyst is responsible for the contribution to all activities related to the development and support of various internal and Company third party applications (i.e., development, testing, ongoing support, upgrades, migrations, uptime, etc.). This role is highly customer focused, requires precision, creativity and an ability to bring out the best in customer and colleagues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support IT Operations in regards to application enhancements, upgrades, and patches to ensure that sound application management practices are being followed in support of Universal Parks’ methodologies, processes and procedures.
• Analyzes, detects, identifies and corrects technical problems and deficiencies.
• Determines requirements, designs, builds, tests, implements, maintains and enhances business systems for incoming new projects. Liaise with end business users to track additional requirements and features.
• Act as a subject matter expert for applications supported by the team. Also act as a central point of contact for those applications.
• Serve as a role model in services automation and efficiency, best practice sharing, proactive actions and creative problem solving activities.
• Ensure quality, up-to-date documentation and procedures exist for all service arrangements. Create and maintain documentation as necessary for operational and security audits.
• Plans, develops and implements backup and recovery procedures.
• Act as a gatekeeper for any new hardware or software modifications needed for current systems.
• Stay up-to-date with current technologies and technical developments.
• Train other users on the existing systems and provide them with needed support.
SCOPE: Working independently and with the team, the Senior Programmer Analyst resolves a wide range of diverse problems utilizing personal judgment and experience to develop solutions in a creative manner. Interacts with employees at all levels of the organization and takes personal responsibility for meeting the needs of the customer while demonstrating an understanding of business objectives. Authority to act within defined policies within the area of expertise/knowledge as directed. Effectively communicates research findings to the team and customers where applicable.
Qualifications/Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Direct experience with applications support
• Minimum of 5 years in a customer facing delivery role
• Minimum 2 years of experience using databases
• Experience with Windows and/or UNIX scripting
• Very good understanding and awareness of the ITIL principles
• Hands on experience with software development and documentation
• Solid knowledge of business information systems processes
• Familiarity with programming languages like C++ and Java
• Strong teamwork ethic
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects with multiple deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify process gaps
• Ability to manage priorities
• Interface with customers, colleagues, management, and project stakeholders, as needed, to ensure overall success
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal groups as well as with customers
• Strong IT security process understanding
• Familiarity with common IT platforms and technologies: Windows, AIX, Firewalls, Switches, DB’s, POS, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems and document solutions
• Proven experience to work as part of a team and to deliver one or several projects simultaneously
• Self-starter and able to work independently, while also able to share responsibilities, ideas and other information
• Proven ability to work with cross functional teams, vendors and 3rd party resources
• Project Management experience a plus
• ITIL Certification a plus
• Hands on experience with web development a plus
EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree in Sciences or Business Administration or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
• College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, information systems, technology, project management or software engineering and/or 5-7+ years equivalent work experience.
• Experience in project management and business analysis is preferred.
• Requires use of sound business judgment in coordinating the requirements of user group(s) for a project.
• Conflict resolution and problem solving techniques required.
• Good in presentation, facilitation, communication, and negotiation required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
• Works with internal business clients and external vendors.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals and procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw graphs, and interpret spreadsheets.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to build and lead a team in completing a project. Some travel possible to support Parks Technology division and client locations.
