Charter Communications currently seeks a Specialist, Sports Public Relations, based in New York City. Below, please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position
Summary of Role:Specialist, Sports PR will manage public relations strategies and outreach for Charter Communications’ local and regional sports properties in coordination with the director, sports and news communications.
Essential Job Functions:
• Develop comprehensive external media strategy for the company, specifically our local and regional sports properties
• Develop and maintain relationships with industry and media contacts to foster a positive image of Charter
• Work closely with senior management on long-term planning and major PR initiatives
• Evaluate and orchestrate executive participation in speaking arrangements, press events and live interviews (radio and TV) while maintaining strong media/press relationships
• Work closely with director to plan and execute PR events to generate positive press for local and regional sports properties
• Proactively assist in managing Charter's reputation in traditional and digital media
Job Requirements:
• Minimum 2-5 years of progressive media relations experience Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and terminology in the media space
• Fluency in Spanish preferred
• Experience crafting and pitching stories
• Ability to work nights and/or weekend to staff PR events
• Understanding of the business of sports and how the media is changing, including its migration to a digital format, what makes a news story, how to control a story, and how to effectively reach journalists with key messages.
• Highly organized, strong attention to detail, self-directed, ability to multi-task and reprioritize quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university
Travel Requirements:
Yes, Travel up to 10 %
