Tribune Media’s Sr. Director, Benefits position will report to the Head of Human Resources. The Sr. Director will be responsible for the continuous development, implementation, communication and leadership of Tribune Media’s benefit functions including health and welfare and retirement plans. This Sr. Director will drive and provide the direction for employee benefit initiatives company-wide. This individual will partner with leadership to ensure that all programs support the organization’s strategic objectives, are competitive, cost effective and in compliance with legal requirements. This individual will be responsible for leading, developing and mentoring a team of approximately five individuals.
Responsibilities:
• Lead delivery and execution of high quality benefit programs
• Contract with and actively manage benefit plans, vendors, auditors, and consultants for services, premiums, and plan administration
• Oversee and direct annual benefits budgeting process
• Use extensive knowledge of the health care landscape, and creative benefit design, to manage the company’s health, welfare, and retirement programs ensuring competitive, cost-effective plans that drive a wellness culture
• Lead employee benefit program communication strategy
• Demonstrate an understanding of the market dynamics, key competitor benefit plan design, and industry trends. Innovate in overall plan design and administration to address industry dynamics and to attract and retain the best and brightest workforce
• Develop and implement strategic goals for the department
• Responsible for ensuring that Tribune Media plans comply with federal, state and local laws and regulations, and that processes and controls are in place to ensure ongoing compliance
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field is required. Master’s Degree in related field or MBA preferred
• A minimum of 10 years of broad based and progressive experience designing and managing benefits, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles. Experience in and comfort with working in fast paced, rapidly changing organizations is essential
• Demonstrated track record of innovating and evolving benefit plan design and administration with the needs of the organization
• Demonstrable knowledge of state-of-the-art thinking and practices in benefits design and administration with the ability and willingness to dive deep and roll up his/her sleeves when needed
• Demonstrable ability to achieve goals through influencing, partnering and developing productive relationships with senior leadership and line managers across the business.
• Solutions-oriented self-starter with a proactive and inquisitive nature who can anticipate and preempt problems
• Previous experience and demonstrated success leading, managing and building teams. Viewed as coach and mentor by team members
• Ability to interact easily across all levels within the organization; tactful; mature; flexible. High level of collaboration and influencing skills. Strong planning, organization, delegation and decision-making abilities
• High energy and drive to create an environment of continuous improvement and innovation
• Experience with due diligence, mergers and acquisitions, Sarbanes-Oxley, ACA, ERISA regulations and other organizational change and regulatory requirements
