Broadcast & Distribution Manager

The SPTI Technical Operations Department manages the technical infrastructure used by our content preparation, promotion editing and programme making teams. It also manages the systems and connectivity used to deliver our content to our play out and VOD partners.
In addition the department also manages the relationships with our third party partners for playout, connectivity, satellite and terrestrial broadcast with responsibility for around 50 channels operating across EMEA and Russia.
The Broadcast and Distribution Manager will have responsibility for the management of the day to day relationship with our third party broadcasting partners ensuring that playout, connectivity ,satellite and DTT operations all operate within their service level agreements.
When there are transmission or other issues that span multiple partners the post holder will need to be able to assess complex systems issues quickly and coordinate the response with our partners.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Manage the day to day relationship with our third party playout, distribution and VOD partners
• Work with our partners to resolve any issues with our playout and distribution operation
• Form a close working relationship with the Technical Operations Manager to ensure that our content delivery workflow operates at peak efficiency.
• Track the SLA performance of our play out and distribution partners producing monthly reports for each partner.
• Assist in the project management of new channel launches
• Take full responsibility for project management of minor changes to our playout or transmission operation
• Produce a monthly report for the Director Technical Operations of all ongoing projects or service changes.
• Attend weekly meetings with our play out partners to review the operation, agree on SLA responsibility for any playout faults and resolve any issues.
Qualifications and/or Experience Required:
Successful candidates will have previous experience working in either a playout, MCR or satellite environment. They will also have the following knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge of:
• Broadcast Playout systems and infrastructure
• On air graphics systems
• Broadcast Scheduling systems –Imagine Vision knowledge would be advantageous.
• Broadcast connectivity including fibre, IP. SDI/HDSDI etc.
• Working knowledge of DVB Compression systems and multiplexers
• Knowledge of broadcast file formats
• Working knowledge of networking
• Knowledge of VOD formats, metadata and packaging
Ability to:
• Able to form collaborative relationships internally and with our partners at both account management and operational levels
• To analyse complex, time bound technical problems and quickly form a plan to resolve them
• Project manage medium scale technical change
• To explain technical issues to non-technical people in a way that they can understand
• Able to analyse large data sets
• Flexibility to work outside office hours in the event of serious on air issues.
Language skills:
• The Post Holder should be fluent in English.
• Some level of German or Italian would be an advantage but not essential.
