Job Description
The Associate Public Relations Managerspearheads public relations strategies and programs for Ubisoft’s high profile video game titles under the guidance of a of public relations associate director. This role has a broad net of media contacts, is a strategic thinker and is a trusted partner and counselor to various internal groups within the company. The associate public relations manager works autonomously but at the same time is a champion team member that leads by example and promotes a positive work environment for other staff members and their development.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and manage public relations programs that cover all phases of product publicity and reach enthusiast and mainstream print, online and broadcast media
• Maintain extensive network of print, online and broadcast mainstream and enthusiast media contacts
• Research, write and edit all press materials including press releases, fact sheets, pitch letters, Q&As, media alerts, speaking points and presentations
• Respond to daily media inquiries in a timely and professional manner; act as spokesperson for assigned franchises, know how to craft an appropriate comment and where to go internally to find the best answers
• Create b-roll packages, video press kits, satellite media tours, and broadcast story pitches
• Manage product launches, media events, and press tours (both in-studio and on the road); staff press meetings and media interviews
• Work closely with internal marketing and production team member counterparts in the US and internationally to identify relevant and timely product news and develop positioning, messages, timelines, story pitches and deliverables schedules
• Deliver concise, timely and informative reporting on press activities, coverage, opportunities, successes and press feedback to internal constituents. Provide post-mortem analysis and competitive analysis
• Maintain and draw upon extensive knowledge of the video game, entertainment and media industries, as well as Ubisoft’s strategic objectives, products, production methods, corporate issues and business units in order to advise and influence key internal decision-makers on media matters
• Foster close working relationship with members of numerous Ubisoft departments, including development, production, community, promotions, brand marketing and corporate communications to ensure a consistent flow of information and ideas, as well as the synthesis of timing, messages, and activities
• Manage expenses to ensure budgets remain within desired projections. Plan budgets in accordance to events and vice versa
• Successfully manage public relations agencies and vendor resources for high return on investment
• Instruct supporting staff members in executing public relations campaigns
• Oversee multi-product media events for public relations team
• Provide media coaching to development team spokespeople
• Interface with executive management on product campaigns
• Coordinate with headquarters
• Serve as a company spokesperson
Qualifications:
• 2-5 years public relations work experience.
• Expertise/knowledge of video game-related industry preferred.
• Public relations agency experience and agency management experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in journalism, English or communications preferred but not mandatory.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills combined with the ability to spot and develop compelling story ideas.
• Strong ability to prioritize between numerous high-profile projects and responsibilities; solid organizational and budget management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities in a rapidly changing environment.
• Ability to identify and explore public relations opportunities which are strategic as well cost effective. Previous experience launching products with a demonstrated track record of managing large, complex events a plus.
• Knowledge and understanding of monitoring services, media directories, newswires and other traditional public relations techniques.
• Ability to question, challenge and suggest alternative approaches to internal and external audiences in a diplomatic manner. Experience managing expectations of demanding internal clients.
• Ability to make decisions, organize thoughts, and engage in creative thinking in the face of time constraints and full workload.
• Possession of interpersonal skills to be a strong team player, ability to balance and blend various departmental needs and views into effective PR strategies, work closely with other departments to complement and support each others objectives.
• Gregarious, curious and comfortable in various situations and locations around the globe.
