Responsibilities
The Director, Network Operations – West Coast, manages all facets of the NBCUniversal Program Preparation Process and acts as the department’s representative to NBC’s LA-based departments, units and external partners, in addition to supporting East Coast operations in the management of the prime-time day-part on the NBC Broadcast Network.
Maintain overall responsibility for NBC’s Program Preparation process, including:
• Develop and maintain network program delivery guidelines and specifications by regularly communicating with each internal NBC department who contributes material and ensures information is current
• Publish and distribute all material via the NBC Program Prep website, including delivery guidelines and specifications, headlines, timing sheets, contacts, programs, etc. in addition to adding fresh content, photos, videos, etc. Makes recommendations as to upgrades and expansion including those that may affect various versions (i.e. mobile)
• Work closely with each individual show post-production staff to manage every aspect of the program prep process, from pilot to series to on-air execution
• Act as “first-responder” to inquiries both internally and externally, utilizing available materials and systems to ensure accuracy of replies
• Enforce all required specifications and guidelines or seek suitable alternatives with Show Producers and Program Executives on behalf of the network to ensure NBC’s technical and operational standards are met and the overall look of the network is maintained
• Develop and maintain a personal communication structure with key stakeholders in the program prep process, both internally and externally, including post-production staff, Program & Development Executives, Business Affairs, Program & Media Operations, Credit Creations, Program Standards, Regulatory Affairs, Music Services, On-Air Promotions, Publicity, Marketing, Program Scheduling and Digital.
• Continually create opportunities to streamline available information and its distribution as well as seek additional information beneficial to show producers that is not currently included in the Program Prep process
• Organize and chair an internal pilot/presentation team including technical, operational and programming individuals that meets regularly prior to and during pilot season to develop and update minimum requirements and delivery specifications and preferences
• Establish a twice-yearly list of theatricals under consideration for air by Program Scheduling and make initial contact with appropriate feature post houses to establish available versions and remedy any conflicts with timing, formats, credits, etc.
Support East Coast operations in the management of the prime-time day-part on the NBC broadcast network:
• Provide after (East Coast) hours support and work overflow assistance on a daily basis
• Assume primary responsibility for prime-time day-part in absence of East Coast Director
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
• Overall Network timing and adjustments
• Format creation and publishing
• Published format adjusts
• Billboard placement
• Sales and promo integrations
• Program booking previews
• Time tailoring requirements
• Special end credit packages and adjustments
• Prime Format Summary utilization and updates
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Minimum 5-10 years in TV network operations, post-production, program operations or related field
• Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point
Desired Characteristics
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the program preparation process at the network level
• Ability to interact with all levels of personnel, including creative executives and technical staff
• Strong computer skills with the ability to understand and navigate multiple applications
• Must be an effective trouble shooter, communicator and problem solver
• Able to organize, prioritize and execute numerous priority projects in parallel
• General knowledge of post-production process
• Must handle stressful situations and interact with clients in a professional manner
• Some travel required
