Summary
The VP Product Program management is responsible for the delivery management of the Global Product digital portfolio. This position plays a critical role in continuing to strengthen the transparency, efficiency and productivity of the delivery, in line with the standard frameworks, processes and governance set. The successful candidate must possess and demonstrate strong leadership abilities across multiple levels of the organization as well as strong technical understanding of the technologies used within the HE technology organization. The role reports directly into the VP Portfolio & Program Management.
Primary Responsibilities
Delivery management
• Manage day2day delivery of the Current and Nextgen digital product portfolio
• Manage delivery against pre-set predictability, productivity and quality KPIs (delivery excellence metrics)
• Drive a transparent governance and reporting process, with qualitative and quantitative metrics in place, as such managing effective decision making, cross-functional alignment and information
• Engage key technical stakeholders where necessary
• Participate in the annual operational planning processes
• Engage with Technical Solutions management Director on aligning product portfolio roadmaps with the technology portfolio roadmaps
• Drive required trade-off analysis required for (re)prioritization across the portfolio, during Ops planning as well as throughout the year
• Drive workflow optimization, within PMO and with cross-functional peers, based on delivery excellence metrics
Communication & Collaboration
• Drive and manage transparency on Global Product program deliveries, thru establishment of relevant dashboards and KPIs for decision making a.o. Cost, Usage, Performance, Scale, Risks/issues
• Work with your Direct peers in the PMO MT on Strategic Delivery improvements as well as annual investment planning process
• Successful partnership with the product, engineering, finance, content development and production teams on all matters involving Delivery management and associated governance
• Build strong, trust based relationships with any other key organization stakeholders at all levels
Leadership & Team management
• Contribute as a key leader and member of the PMO Leadership team
• Operate as a leader with the Agile philosophy and Lean principles in mind at all times
• Establish and drive as a leader program management best practices in sync with the Pearson SAFe implementation
• Function as a bridge between Product & Technology VPs to resolve delivery challenges, as well as to drive program budget planning and management
• Develop delivery strategies that optimize the effectiveness of the product development teams (collaboration with all appropriate peers)
• Lead and manage an organization of approximately 4-5 Directors with roughly 60 project managers and program managers
• Develop and grow people, build skillsets, establish career paths, and succession plans, identify gaps and recruit top talent.
Qualifications
Job Knowledge and experience
• Preferred education experience:
◦ Masters Degree and ten plus (15+) years of project, product management and/or engineering leadership experience in software product development
◦ MBA or business degree desired
• Industry experience:
◦ 10+ years in engineering, technology industries, education industry
◦ 7+ years leading a team of Managers and directors
◦ 7+ years in an agile development environment managing new product development programs and projects, in a SAFe managed environment.
◦ Software as a service experience preferred
◦ Experience with proven positive results managing large, complex, and diverse programs.
◦ Business, financial experience – managing business cases, delivering against ROI. Experience with multi-million dollar portfolio budgets.
◦ Knowledge of software development, agile development and SDLC methodologies
◦ Proven ability to effectively communicate and resolve issues with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
◦ Proven ability to build strong, trust based relationships with key organizational stakeholders
◦ Advanced experience with full life-cycle software development
◦ Ability to manage technology portfolio and POC topics
◦ Ability to understand high-level technology architecture and non-functional requirements
◦ Ability to assess and analyze Technology financial metrics (Capacity Planning, CapEx, OpEx)
