Post Production Systems Engineer (12 Month Contract)
Please note that this role is based in the United Kingdom. In order to enable us to meet statutory and regulatory obligations of the United Kingdom immigration system you must have the appropriate immigration permission needed to work and reside in the United Kingdom.
The Technical Operations Department manages the technical infrastructure used by our content preparation, promotion editing and programme making teams. It also manages the systems and connectivity used to deliver our content to our play out and VOD partners.
In addition the department also manages the relationships with our third party partners for playout, connectivity, satellite and terrestrial broadcast with responsibility for around 50 channels operating across EMEA and Russia.
The Post Production Systems Engineer is a 12 month placement, and will be responsible for the first line support of all of our internal post production systems. This includes remote management support for our offices in Amsterdam and Madrid, where necessary.
The role will require a deep understanding of NLE software and computer systems. Troubleshooting issues will be a core responsibility for the candidate and being able to communicate solutions to the end user, in a user friendly manner is of the highest importance.
Although the role operates in normal office hours there will occasionally be the requirement to work after hours or at weekends.
Key responsibilities will include:
• Comprehensive support and maintenance of broadcast equipment, including Post Production software/hardware, storage and networking systems in region.
• Support Promo, Production and QC editors with technical and workflow related issues.
• Administer the Active Directory and Open Directory systems of a mix Mac, PC and Linux environment
• Work with 3rd party support vendors (Quantum, Q-Logic, Adobe, Jigsaw24 …) to troubleshoot software and hardware issues as they arise
• Provide remote support where required for Premiere Pro/Stornext edit suites in Madrid and Amsterdam.
• Test and roll out software/hardware upgrades across the facility
• Work with the Tech Ops management team on facility upgrade projects, being the key technical implementer of Post Production hardware/software
• Work alongside corporate IT on projects that affect the Post Production environment to ensure Technical Operations requirements are accurately communicated and managed.
Qualifications and/or Experience Required:
Successful candidates will have previous experience in a technical support role for broadcast television post –production, and must have a strong understanding of media workflows. They will also have the following knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge of:
• Extensive knowledge of SAN and Object Storage technologies and their specific use in post / broadcast environment. Experience with a StorNext SAN is advantageous.
• Knowledge of all major broadcast video codecs and digital production workflows.
• Demonstrable knowledge of Ofcom/EBU video and audio standards, such as EBU-R128. Ability to ensure equipment is maintained to effectively implement these standards.
• Extensive knowledge of the full Adobe toolset, specifically Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Media Encoder.
• Knowledge of AVID Protools, with a particular insight into audio mixing workflows.
• Technical expertise in Mac workstation deployment and configuration for creative video and editorial use. Proven experience in optimizing industry standard media technology for shared broadcast workflows.
• Must be proficient in working with IP and fibre networks. Experience with QLogic fibre channel switches would be advantageous.
• Proficient in documentation tools including AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project and MS Visio
• Experience with the following additional systems also beneficial: Avid, Harmonic Carbon Coder, FFMpeg, Tools-On-Air tape ingest, Telestream Episode Engine, Digimetrics Aurora, Tektronix Cerify
Ability to:
• Ability to administer Active Directory, Open Directory and Apple profile manager deployments. Including troubleshooting basic faults.
• Ability to troubleshoot leading NLE and graphics applications: Adobe CC (Premiere, AE, Speedgrade, Audition), FCP7, Cinema 4D, Pro Tools.
• Commincate complex issues to end users in user friendly manner.
• Document work in a professional manner.
Language skills:
• The candidate should be fluent in English.
