Global Procurement at Pearson

The global procurement team is newly constituted, with a global footprint and diverse expenditure profile; ranging from traditional indirect categories to content led direct media categories.

About the role
This is a unique opportunity to join the team with responsibilities in creating and driving the management strategy for key Corporate Service suppliers. This new role reports to the VP Supplier Relationship and Contract Management and will work extensively with the Procurement category leads and business stakeholders as well as supplier account management teams. The candidate will collaborate with local teams to deliver on global initiatives, promote supplier programs within Pearson to support business adoption, drive efficiencies and commercial savings and increase overall value from our suppliers.
The Manager of our corporate services suppliers will build strong relationships with the global procurement team, business stakeholders, and vendors to ensure our vendor’s services and offerings are in line with our business needs and the broader strategy of the organization. This person will also:
• Create and deliver global strategy for Corporate Service suppliers through centralized management, expansion of preferred vendor relationships and delivery of regional initiatives.
• Work with Finance teams to measure progress in vendor rationalization and preferred vendor adoption.
• Work with Procurement team including category leads, and commercial operations to execute contracts for Corporate Service vendors to maximize business benefits.
• Proactively engage with and seek feedback from the business users, taking ownership of vendor communications to improve service deliverables and end user satisfaction and adoption.
Responsibilities shall include:
• Deliver measurable savings and other benefits against agreed strategy and objectives
• Ensure appropriate supplier relationship treatment strategies are communicated and delivered
• In conjunction with Legal, ensure contracts protect Pearson’s interests and facilitate compliance
• Contribute to the development of sourcing best practice – helping to ensure continuous improvement across the function e.g. actively seek transaction processing efficiencies
• Utilize the agreed tools to manage sourcing events and ensure delivery against agreed timeframes
• Ensure suppliers’ deliverables and performance meet and or exceed contracted commitments
• Proactively engage supplier to ensure our commitments to them are being delivered in a well-managed fashion
• Escalate issues and risks in a timely manner
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent business and commercial acumen, proven track record of improving commercial outcomes and value add services
• Ability to work through competing priorities and influence desired outcomes
• Expertise in business planning, and project management
• Strong problem solving ability and change management knowledge.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship development skills
• Outstanding communications skills: verbal, written and presentation
• Demonstrated data analysis, decision making and problem solving ability
• Promotes teamwork and inclusion; acts as leader to junior team members
• Demonstrated knowledge of effective risk management including with respect to protecting the organization’s reputation.
• Strategic thinking ability
• Proactive mindset balanced with appropriate escalation and upward management communication
Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years work experience in vendor management, procurement or related area
• Experience managing service delivery and performance management for $M + vendor relationships
• Experience leading global procurement projects and vendor service delivery
• Able to maintain an impartial high level view of what the business is trying to achieve remaining results and outcome focused.
• Experience working in a global corporate environment with a matrix management structure is desirable.
• Relevant degree or professional certifications in any area within operations is desirable.
