EyeOpener, an innovative Tribune Media syndicated morning show, is looking for a creative writer/ Associate Producer.
We need a smart, innovative self-starter who can handle a large number of assignments, producing material that is accurate, sharp, edgy and fits into the EyeOpener style. This is not newspaper or wire service writing. You must have a conversational tone and a definite point of view. You will also assemble notes and background material to support talent for the show’s unscripted segments, and utilize a variety of social media tools to build your stories.
Responsibilities:
Writing to video is essential, and making the most of viral stories and video is critical. Each story must give morning viewers a reason to stop what they’re doing and get involved with the show. The most important things you can bring to this position are creativity, courage and a determination to do something very different, without apologizing for it. This means being a creative writer, creating desktop graphics, choosing video and working closely with the production staff. You will also contribute material to the websites and pages, and work with the social media producers to encourage online conversations.
This is not a typical newscast. You must have a real interest and appreciation for hot topics, trends in music and pop culture and a keen interest in the things people are talking about online every day. Your writing must be upbeat, conversational, and edgy. If you want to produce a network nightly newscast or wildlife documentaries, this is not the job for you. Our show is “Wow”, not “Oh no”. You should aspire to a producer position, and be ready to learn how to produce our local news cut-ins and one of the live hours.
Qualifications:
This is a permanent overnight position. You must be a self-starter and independent thinker, able to produce a lot of interesting material under tight deadlines every day, with little hand-holding. You must love working with a diverse and offbeat staff who like putting square pegs in round holes.
Candidates must know more than news. Comfort with trends, pop culture and social media’s effect on what we talk about are critical. You will work with a variety of proprietary Tribune newsroom tools, so you should be detail oriented, tech savvy and able to make fast changes when the situation demands it. Candidates must understand and appreciate the demands of a live show and popular websites and feed the beast every day.
This is not your standard newsroom position. It is an unusual job in a unique environment.
Live newscast experience is helpful, but we will also consider a blogger who posts daily and can adapt to a live television environment, producing lots of material every day.
We need your resume and an interesting letter telling us about yourself. We need to know what you have done in the past and for whom. You must include links to shows, sites, pages or blogs. Applications that don’t include these things will not be considered. Period. Qualified candidates who have applied previously are welcome to re-apply.
Must be willing to submit to a background
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the US
