Job Introduction
BBC Nepali reaches over a quarter of the Nepali population every week with its radio broadcasts and is the second most followed Nepali speaking page on Facebook. We’re looking for an editor to grow our audience on mobile and put innovation at the heart of our social offer with digital content that appeals to younger more female audiences. The editor will work with teams in Nepal and London to maintain the quality of our radio output and think of new ways of delivering audio to our audiences. Role Responsibility
As Editor, you will ensure the highest standard of journalism is delivered for Nepali speaking audiences worldwide. Working with our editorial teams in Delhi and across South Asia as well as colleagues in London, you will oversee daily content production and deliver longer term strategy in pursuit of the stated goal of reaching a global audience of 500 million by 2022.
The BBC World Service is receiving investment to digitally transform our language services as part of the W2020 Project and you’ll be at the heart of the drive to make that a reality.
Managing the team will be a key part of your role and you will be in charge of planning and deployments.
In addition, you will manage the Service budget and resources and report on performance to the Head of Region.
The Ideal Candidate
A successful track record in a news editorial role is essential to this role and you will be able to demonstrate experience of making sound judgements on editorial and political issues. Fluency in Nepali and English are required and you will have the ability to communicate and provide output effectively in both languages. We need your ability to deliver output for radio, TV, digital and social media platforms so a sound knowledge of production processes is required. You will have a detailed current knowledge of Nepali and international current affairs. An extensive knowledge of our audience needs and the media situation in Nepal and the wider target area is also required.
In addition, we need your experience of managing editorial teams and of monitoring and managing budgets and resources effectively.
