McGraw-Hill Education is looking for an experienced, team-oriented, strategic thinking Managing Director to lead our innovative Math, Physical Sciences, and Engineering product portfolio.
Critical Functions:
• Dynamic, authentic, and proven educational product team leader managing multiple stakeholder groups representing a staff of approximately 20-40 employees and 100-250 partners. Recruits, retains, and develops a highly qualified team which drives the digital transformation across product portfolio. Develops a world-class, high-performance, transparent, and engaging team culture that unlocks the potential of the group and sets an industry standard.
• Leader of change and proven driver of digital transformation through vision and the creation of customer-centric products/solutions. Pioneer of new business models and product strategies that capitalize on emerging markets.
• Directs and implements the strategic acquisition, creation, and implementation of profitable market leading educational technology products and digital solutions that delight our customers (students, faculty, and enterprises). Directs and implements product research and usability studies, prototype development, and business requirement creation to architect platforms, adaptive-assessment engines, assessment analytics, and content management.
• Encourages intelligent risk taking and innovative solutions to build and deliver new business models that improve both educational and financial performance of our products. Drives planning and execution of assigned products and markets portfolio by organizing and leading cross-functional teams in the process of defining and delivering on the plan.
• Coaches and educates product team and other stakeholders to understand and prepare to take advantage of the rapidly evolving trends in the digital world that impact our markets and customers.
• Exceeds all financial measures and is the P&L owner for the portfolio. Deeply partners with Finance Team, VP Portfolio, and stakeholders to build strategic growth business plan. Ensures timely development of budget, financial parameters, and alternative business models. Accountable for contract review and approval in close collaboration with McGraw-Hill Education Legal Department, VP Portfolio, and CPO Products & Markets.
A successful candidate will have:
• A Bachelor’s Degree; advanced degree is preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Eight plus years of relevant experience in leading and building products/solutions in education or educational technology.
• A track-record of success leading educational technology product teams in the education market (or relevant experience).
• A broad skill set including authentic leadership, analytical horsepower, and excellent business judgment, proven ed-tech product build record, deep curiosity, financial acumen, and a passion for creating a world-class experience for our customers.
• An innovative, entrepreneurial spirit who can define and implement immediate- and long-term business strategies based on industry trends and competitive analysis. The ability to lead a team and partner with pan-organizational stakeholders to solve complex challenges with innovative solutions. The capacity to thrive in a matrix organizational structure.
• Facility working with Chief Operating Officers, Presidents, or Vice Presidents both internally and of large, high profile educational institutions and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to drive insight and action plans from data that shape the strategic business plan they will build.
• Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to team/collaborate with other departments to achieve Higher Education’s overall goals.
• Demonstrable success with P&L responsibility in excess of $50 million in revenue.
