Job Description
The Huffington Post seeks an experienced, energetic newsroom leader to lead its Washington, DC bureau and oversee political coverage. Candidates will have a deep background in editing and reporting and a drive to set the news agenda in an ever-changing, competitive environment. They will excel at breaking news, as well as developing unique story arcs for political coverage. Experience in digital journalism, working across all platforms, is a must, as is a fluency with data, analytics and audience development tools. A passion for management and a talent for organization are both essential. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Executive Editor.
Qualifications
•10+ years of newsroom experience, at least 2 of those in a leadership role
•Experience overseeing a team of 30+ reporters and editors in fast-paced newsroom environment
•Deep, demonstrated passion for political coverage, whether as a reporter, editor or producer
•Creative thinking about differentiating political coverage from other mass media
•Experience creating stories in varied formats, from text to video to memes, gifs and distributed content
•Ability to interpret data and analytics to inform coverage decisions and meet goals
•Facility with digital newsroom analytics and tools and skill with incorporating audience information into coverage decisions
•Ability to work collaboratively across departments, notably social and video
•Passion for management and mentorship of newsroom talent
