Job Introduction
Head of Production needed at BBC Worldwide (12 Month FTC)
The Head of Production is responsible for the operational and production management of all materials produced for the EMEA regions, including line management of a team of production staff. They will oversee the planning, workflow management, scheduling, localisation and delivery of a variety of assets including channel launches, on and off air campaigns.
Working closely with the Director of Operations, they will be responsible for forecasting and managing the Direct cost budget ensuring accurate reconciliation and reporting.
The ideal candidate will be adept at managing volume with a good understanding of the re-versioning and localisation process. They will be experts in devising and implementing complex workflows for managing multiple assets, comfortable with discussing technical changes that may affect play out and be able to balance the creative and operational requirements of a busy broadcast promotions department.
Role Responsibility
• Be the point of escalation, trouble shoot any concerns and issues between the EMEA Creative team and the internal stakeholders, bringing diplomacy and senior production skills to ensure problems are anticipated and resolved swiftly.
• Manage a team of Production Coordinators and Team Assistants overseeing the day to day planning and production of the monthly make list and providing guidance/support through the structure of monthly 1-1s and up to date objectives.
• Management of the EMEA Direct Cost Budget including tracking and monthly financial reporting, quarterly and annual forecasting alongside the Director of Operations and Creative Director.
• Working with the Senior Production Co-ordinators they will scope individual budgets for campaigns including filming and design costing, where necessary pulling in freelance Production expertise to support on bigger campaigns.
• Manage and negotiate rates for localisation agencies, facilities, freelancers and secondary event production.
• Ensure that the Production Team are working closely with Media Planning, Programming and Marketing to ensure that the monthly promo make is in accordance with the allocation and promotional currency.
• Ensure that there is clear communication between territories in order to optimise the re-versioning of campaigns avoiding duplication and inefficiency.
• Forward plan monthly makes, taking into account campaigns and any additional work over BAU, mapping and resourcing for peaks and troughs in production allowing sufficient time to bring in additional resource.
• Oversee the scheduling of resources ensuring that the Production team are accurately scheduling work and managing the pipeline of work into the Edit Village. Work with the Director of Operations to extract utilisation reports to inform the business of cost and drive efficiencies.
• Managing a roster of agencies including voiceover agencies, versioning and continuity writing providers – seeking out best rates and service and ensuring that deliveries are on time and budget.
The Ideal Candidate
• Strong production experience in a broadcast media environment
• Experience in managing a large team of people writing departmental and individual objectives, holding regular 1-1s and tracking development against goals.
• A good creative sympathy and understanding of the skills and environment required in order to facilitate world class creative work.
• Good understanding of the re-versioning and localisation process
• Excellent articulation and diplomacy skills, the ability to explain resource issues to stakeholders and to find inventive solutions.
