Summary of role:
The UK Financial Control team is responsible for all UK month-end close activities, Group and Statutory reporting, Balance Sheet control, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll. The team is also responsible for end-to-end process control and, where necessary, process redesign and improvement across the UK FC, PFS and BPO teams.
The main responsibilities of the UK Finance Manager Statutory Accounts will be:
• The management and completion of the annual statutory accounts for a range of Pearson UK trading businesses;
• Management of the annual audits for Pearson UK and a number of other UK statutory entities;
• Oversight and co-ordination of the submission of the Bi-annual Statutory Reporting pack to Group finance on behalf of UKM Trading entities;
• Overseeing the submission of Corporation Tax information to the internal Tax team; and
• Acting as the key contact for internal and external auditors and Pearson PLC tax team.
Activities/responsibilities:
• Prepare and submit Statutory Accounts for all UK Trading entities – including, but not limited, to Pearson Education Ltd., Pearson Shared Services Ltd., Pearson Management Services Ltd., Pearson College Ltd., Escape Studios Ltd, and others.
• Own the process for completion, review and submission of the bi-annual statutory information packs to Pearson Group Finance, working with the local and PFS UKFC team and the BPO Team in Bangalore, India.
• Manage the engagement and work plan with external auditors, including agreeing the audit requirements for UK Statutory Accounts
• Represent UK Finance on changes to UK GAAP/IFRS reporting changes, working closely with Group Finance.
• Prepare or review tax submissions and answer any follow up questions from internal Tax team
• Investigate the use of Statutory Account software and run project to implement if appropriate
• Complete and review SOX controls
• Setting and agreeing the timetable each year for preparation of statutory accounts, and audits, and agreeing audit timing with our external audit firm
• Assisting in the wind-up and liquidation of any dormant UK companies
• Oversight of accounts preparation and audit for some companies in other jurisdictions e.g. Cyprus
• Perform the role of BTEC Plas Pension Scheme Treasurer
Qualifications and experience required:
• Qualified with demonstrable experience in financial accounting essential
• Fluent English speaker
• Experience of using some, or all, of our core finance systems: Oracle R12, Prime, Delphi and Smartview
• Experience of working in a multi-national matrix organization
• Strong understanding of materiality and ability to prioritize across competing agendas
• Ability to identify business risks and implementation of tactics to mitigate
• Understanding of financial control, business performance management and process optimization and experience of working in more than one of these areas.
• An understanding of putting internal financial results into an external market context.
• Awareness of multiple business models and experience of working with more than one.
• Understanding of finance specialist areas: tax, treasury, M&A, compliance, corporate governance and ability to utilize proper judgement to involve them as necessary.
