This role will be responsible for working at a high level supporting our Windows estates. Tasks can include solving complex problems, serve as an escalation point to your peers, manage smaller projects and work on large highly visible projects. You will be creating scripts and automation functions to proactively fix repetitive issues. As a principal you will need the ability to work independently with little to know guidance in some situations. You will be part of a global team that will drive best practices, requiring collaboration with peers, developers, DBAs, and other Pearson support services in production and pre-production environments.
Essential skills, qualifications, and experience:
• Building, configuring, and administering all version of Windows Servers
• Demonstrable advanced understanding of monitoring, security, and infrastructure components (such as storage, backups, networking, user access)
• Resolving engineering design and test problems
• Deep understand on ITIL processes regarding incident, change, problem, and task work
• Specialization in highly available system design and architecture
• Automation and configuration management experience (BMC Bladelogic, Puppet, Chef, Foreman, CFEngine, etc.)
• Advanced Internet services experience (Apache, Tomcat, IIS, etc.)
• Experience with Database Technologies (Oracle, MS SQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.)
• Advanced Scripting Knowledge (Powershell, VBScript, etc.)
• Virtualization Experience (VMware)
• Detailed understanding of performance, sustainability, durability, resilience and continuity
• Experience of working in an Agile environment with a practitioner level understanding of Agile principles and their application
• English as a business language
• Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the criticality of operations as an enabler for growth
• Project Management skills
Qualifications
Desirable skills, qualifications, and experience:
• Ability to assist with strategy, driving the team and workload management/engagement models
• Significant previous experience of working closely with stakeholders and handling escalations and complex requirements
• Ability to lead large project teams
• Independent worker, can work on projects or issues with little to no direction from management
• Workflow optimization experience
• Service delivery in a high volume queue/ticket allocation and project environment with competing priorities
• Previous experience of leading and contributing actively to war rooms and cross group incident analysis activities
• Monitoring experience (New Relic, Sitescope, Zenoss, Zabbix, Foglight)
• DevOps methodology experience
• Agile Experience (Kanban, scrum, etc.)
• Networking knowledge
