Summary
Our Site Reliability Engineers are the primary interface between our developers and our production operations. No matter how many times we get searched, scraped, scanned, spammed, pinged, paged or queried, they gotta keep their cool - and keep the site running smoothly. They’re as comfortable designing, coding, and scaling large scale distributed systems as they are automating the spin-up of new hosting environments in code, or deep-diving into the Linux kernel.
The Director of Engineering - Operations needs to bring a deep technical understanding of modern SRE practices. The strength of your vision for how SRE continues to evolve in terms of both technology and people should be matched by your love of helping managers and their teams collaborate well with all of engineering to build amazing systems.
What You Will Do:
• Lead and mentor a team of SRE managers based in the US and the UK.
• Ensure site stability, performance, and efficiency.
• Provide technical vision to build and scale innovative infrastructure.
• Be comfortable with diving deep technically - be able to roll up your sleeves and debug/tune/code/fix alongside your team.
• Guide the hiring process and goals for the organization.
• Foster and grow a fun, diverse, and inclusive culture that reflects the Yelp Values.
We Are Looking For:
• Previous experience as a senior manager or director of SRE/Operations teams.
• A proven track record in SRE/Operations engineering.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Mastery of Linux or Unix.
• Command of your favorite modern programming language: Python, Golang, Ruby, Java, C++, etc.
• Practical knowledge of common infrastructure-as-code tooling: e.g., Puppet, Terraform.
• Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with large scale, consumer focused web/mobile infrastructure.
Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
