The Director of Audience Development will play a key role in the company’s efforts to grow audience and revenue by formulating and executing strategies to online reach and readership through innovative, cutting-edge partner relationships and marketing channels. This position will manage The Daily Meal’s consumer marketing and customer acquisition budget as well as day to day activities with social platforms, Google News and The Daily Meal Culinary Content Network (a 400+ blogger network).
Responsibilities:
• Assume P&L responsibility for all efforts to acquire and retain readers for The Daily Meal.
• Oversee the development of marketing strategies, communication plans, timelines, and special projects.
• Direct day to day activities with all traffic partners including MSN, Yahoo, Fox News and more.
• Direct and develop overall circulation strategy for all subscriber and single copy programs and sources.
• Actively identify and recruit new partners for content syndication with a goal for driving visitors back to The Daily Meal.
• Develop and execute strategies that increase readership in key syndicated research studies used by media planners.
• Continually evaluate and make recommendations to develop and enhance database marketing capabilities that would help in attacking new consumers to trial the site.
• Proactively communicate “audience story” to advertising sales department and all employees.
• Represent the company internally and externally on key industry committees and events.

• Excellent team leadership skills with the ability to prioritize objectives and simultaneous demands
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in all sources of audience development and retention
• Familiarity with subscription-based product models
• Analytical and strategic thinker
• Good understanding of consumers and able to provide and articulate their point of view
• Knowledge and understanding of consumer habits and how to generate engagement through digital desktop and mobile source.
• Ability to balance short term financial targets with long term marketing goals.
• Ability to work with managers in other departments (Ad sales, Editorial), manage sideways and evangelize the audience development department’s initiatives
• Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in marketing preferred
