SUMMARY
The Associate Producer is primarily responsible for writing assigned stories and material under the direction of the Executive Producer. Trained to produce news wheels and shoot news stories when needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Writes scripts for assigned video, write scripts from wire stories. Produces and writes special reports as directed by Producers or News Director. Writes stories for anchors as required. Stories should be written in a clear and concise conversational manner.
• Creates accurately timed newscasts that meet format requirements, within established deadlines. Produces assigned newscasts and news inserts making decisions on story lineup, video/audio, graphics, and timing to construct the show.
• Researches news publication, websites and programming for story updates and ideas. Brings story ideas to daily editorial meetings. Responsible for up-to-date knowledge of news and events in local market, nation and world
• Trained to shoot stories in the field. Edits video from feeds and field ensuring that finished product accurately reflects the story or VO.
• Suggest story ideas for the assignment desk or ideas for special projects for News 14 Carolina. Assist in editing basic vo’s and vo/sots. Help make phone calls or gather background information from the web during “Breaking News” situations. Enter stories on the web site when web producers are not available. Assist in other ways as needed by supervisors.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, good news judgment, ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
• Must be organized and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Must work effectively and efficiently under deadlines.
• Will perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in English, Journalism, Communications or related degree or equivalent experience.
• Prefer experience in a television news environment, including producing live newscasts or newscasts in a 24-hr news environment.
• Prefer experience shooting, writing and editing sports or news stories.
• Some travel required.
• Must have valid NC Driver’s License and good driving record.
