The Position
The VP, Midwest Sales (digital and print revenue) is a transformational role that will serve as a critical leader for growth of the USA TODAY NETWORK, within the Midwest region. This person will be responsible for developing innovative and impactful integrated sales strategies that will drive revenue across all of Gannett’s core media assets including USA TODAY, as well as Gannett-owned local news properties within its Domestic Publishing division. The successful candidate will leverage his/her contact base within the advertising market-place among both digital/print clients and agencies. You will lead sales efforts and directly contribute to the revenue development and the overall growth of the business. This position reports to the SVP, National Sales.
Key Responsibilities
This position will provide tactical and strategic advertising sales leadership, driving revenue growth through direct sales and sales leadership. Core responsibilities will include:
• Develop and oversee advertising strategies that will have a direct impact on the company’s revenue and profitability, ensuring the attainment or exceeding of sales goals and growing the business (specifically, in the areas of native/branded content, programmatic, mobile and video)
• Lead and manage all phases of the sales process from prospecting and presenting, to negotiating and closing
• Establish and build effective relationships with brand advertisers and agencies
• Identify, research and approach new accounts; fortify and grow business from existing accounts
• Develop pricing, packaging, messaging and go-to-market approaches that will garner advertising interest
• Work closely with ad operations to monitor and optimize campaigns
• Recruit, build and motivate a best-in-class sales team that is engaged, results-oriented and will achieve revenue objectives
• Develop and maintain a relationship with senior management; communicate results and engage the local sites in best strategic approach to clients to maximize revenue.
• Encourage a cross platform approach with advertisers utilizing other Gannett assets
• Collaborate closely with National Sales management team.
• Employing sales best practices this leader will utilize market intelligence and research to build sales and will be proficient at selling to all levels of buyers and clients.
Required Experience/Skills
• Successful candidate will bring deep experience in multi-platform advertising/media sales within the digital and print media industry
• Knowledge and selling experience with native/branded content, programmatic, mobile and video
• A proven media sales team leader with the ability to drive a growing sales organization in a highly competitive market; will have established relationships within the advertising industry across the country including brand and agency relationships
• Documented success in leading, building, coaching and motivating a media sales team, including managing remote staff.
• Minimum of ten years’ successful sales experience in a competitive media marketplace
• Minimum of 10 years’ successful integrated sales (with a heavy emphasis on digital), or sales management experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience
