JOB SCOPE
Provides integral support for designing, deploying, managing, and ensuring stability of the local/wide area network infrastructure technologies to provide high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability.
This position reports to the Core Optical Transport Networks operations of the Network Operations Business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Integrates communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations.
• Uses Data Analysis Modeling to forecast, evaluate new product impact and capacity and track network problem resolution.
• Evaluates new products and performs network problem resolution.
• Implements and supports approved methods of procedure.
• Assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems basic to moderate complexity
• Participates in network planning, network architecture design and engineering.
• Develops and implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement based on corporate standards.
• Assists in the development and documentation of technical standards.
• Supports approved network architecture and designs.
• Provides tier support across organizations, including on-call support.
• Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
• Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• MUST BE currently enrolled in a Graduate Coursework in Computer Science, Network management, Telecommunications or related field
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Graduate Coursework in Computer Science, Network management, Telecommunications or related field.
EXPERIENCE
• Work experience in Data Networks would be an added advantage
• Work experience in LAN, WAN and telecommunications equipment or optical networking would be an added advantage
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Basic or Working Knowledge of the following:
• Industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media (Multimode Fiber, Single mode Fiber, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
• Network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
• TCP/IP and the OSI Model
• Fiber optic systems (DWDM, SONET, ROADM) and fiber optic characteristics
• OSI layers from application to physical, knowledge of BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, PIM, MPLS, and RIP.
• Using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
• Network devices and basic network appliances
• Network designing software, such as Visio
