Forbes is seeking a Digital Reporter to join its editorial team in Hong Kong. This position is a key part of the company’s objective to expand its digital footprint in the APAC region. The successful candidate will be an ambitious and creative journalist with a track record in reporting across a range of beats – from tech to e-commerce – for a digital platform.
Main responsibilities
• Discover and develop stories that cover important/trending issues in the APAC region/fall within broader categories such as technology, politics, business and lifestyle
• Develop a strong voice in the region in line with the company’s overall strategy
• Cover major events in the region for Forbes such as tech conferences, auto shows and press conferences
• Work with Hong Kong team to develop a comprehensive editorial calendar for the region
• Collaborate with key colleagues to create fresh, innovative and mobile-friendly content (video, infographics, podcasts etc.) for all our platforms
• Work with Social Media Producer to drive strategies/campaigns that fully utilize available social tools and maximize engagement with users in this space
• Work with Digital Director to develop off-domain projects such as podcast series
• Develop and manage a network of contacts and regular contributors in region
Required skills/experience
• 7-8 years’ experience working as a reporter – much of that time in a digital environment
• Must be able to develop a story, from pitch to execution, for a digital audience
• Must be a social media native – especially publishing and newsgathering
• Excellent knowledge of key news markets across Asia – especially China and India
• Track record of analyzing and interpreting often complex stories for a wider audience
• First-class writing and editing skills
• Good multimedia skills – working with video, graphics a major advantage
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Other Asian languages a plus
