As the Manager of Product Engineering for one of our VTS teams, you will have the opportunity to provide both tactical and technical leadership to a software development group that supports key business needs. This role combines business and technical skills with experiences to deliver high quality software products. This position reports to a Director of Product Engineering.
Through coordinating the work of Architects, Developers, Business Systems Analysts, and Project Managers, you will provide quick and effective management in tasks requiring planning, coordinating, scheduling, documentation to ensure products and services meet requirements and expectations of the stakeholders; and to establish and maintain metrics for quality and productivity. In this role you regularly coordinate with other functional teams as well as other disciplines like Product Quality (SQA), Product Mgmt as well as Configuration Management.
Delivery:
• Deliver projects and enhancements using the appropriate agile development processes and team planning
• Provide technical leadership and emerging trends in engineering best practices
• Understand resource requirements and formulate resource strategies to meet stakeholder needs
• Work collaboratively with product owners, program managers, clients, and leadership to ensure that functional requirements are thoroughly and accurately defined as required
Leadership:
• Provide clear leadership for the assigned Development Group
• Line team building, management and staff engagement
• Perform key people management responsibilities including hiring, onboarding and developing, the team including performance assessments and talent management.
Continuous Improvement:
• Work with colleagues to optimize effectiveness of the development team and devise improvement strategies and initiatives
• Act as a catalyst for the evolution of software development life cycle
• Facilitate creation and implementation of new processes
• Review and analyze existing workflows and practices for effectiveness and efficiency
• Establish and maintain metrics for quality and productivity
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business or other application field or equivalent experience
• 8+ years in software development and demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams towards high performance
• 5+ years in technical leadership with relevant experience on Java based applications
• 5+ years in a direct management role
• 3+ years in product development using agile processes to deliver business value
