Overview and Responsibilities
We are looking for a Lead Strategist for our Global Entertainment Group. We are open to candidates at the Vice President and Senior Vice President levels for this Strategy/Business Development (SBD) position. The SBD will play a key role within the management of the General Entertainment Cluster and be part of the overall Viacom Media Networks (VMN) team developing broader VMN strategy.
The SBD will work with the cluster’s management team and in coordination with the VIMN COO in setting a strategic path for the Cluster while working through and creating competitive advantages in pursuit of sustainable revenue and OI growth. The SBD will work with cross-functional teams within the Cluster in developing analysis and summarizing results to enable Cluster management to make informed decisions about its various strategic and tactical management options. SBD will also be responsible for supporting the cluster during budget presentations and leading long range plan projects. Lastly, SBD will be responsible for identifying inorganic opportunities, analyzing their merits, (together with Cluster management) presenting the opportunity to Viacom management and being the key Cluster contact to M&A teams in the execution of those transactions.
The SBD will also be part of the broader Strategy team developing the overall GEG/VMN strategy, led and coordinated by the VIMN COO. This team will meet on a regular basis and its objective would be to: (1) frame impact of industry dynamics on VMN, and (2) develop VMN strategy and drive it forward. Participation and exposure to the VMN Strategy development enables the SBD to develop the Cluster Strategy in the context of the overall VMN Strategy. The SBD would also from time to time team with other Cluster Strategy heads in developing VMN-wide projects. Additionally, the SBD will represent the Cluster in VMN long-range planning exercises.
The position's responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
CLUSTER STRATEGY AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT (75%)
1) Assume leadership for Strategy function –develop and drive overall strategic direction for Cluster
• Co-lead with Cluster management in setting the strategic agenda for the Cluster
• Identify and articulate key short and long term strategic goals and priorities
• Identify key sources of competitive advantage, necessary to drive sustainable growth
• Look to create additional sources of competitive advantage
• Lead development and execution of recommended action plans to resolve strategic business issues, address challenges that arise across the business to achieve sustainable, profitable growth
• Drive research, analysis, development of analytical tools and concepts to better understand Cluster operating dynamics, identify and effectively address underlying business problems and opportunities
• Execute / help in the implementation of the various projects as needed
• Bring in best practices to Cluster from other Strategy divisions within VMN
2) Assume leadership for the Business Development role in driving inorganic opportunities for Cluster
• Identify potential inorganic opportunities
• Analyze their merits in detail, presenting in a summarized manner to Cluster management
• Together with Management, present opportunity to Viacom management
• If transaction is to proceed, SBD will act as key Cluster liaison to Viacom M&A
3) Significant contributor to budget and other presentations for Cluster
• Develop overall narrative, strategic story and objectives for Cluster budget presentation
• Partner with finance to review submissions and assess Cluster financial growth and performance
• Contribute to drafting and production process of budget presentation materials
• Contribute to other ad-hoc presentations as required by Cluster management
4) Be a team player within the Cluster management team
• Seek to establish broad relationships across departments at the Cluster
• Act as the advisor of choice for the President and the Cluster Executive Management Team
• Instill a “can-do” attitude across the cluster
GEG STRATEGY AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT (25%)
• Be an active participant in the VMN Strategy group and help drive VMN strategy forward
• Connect Cluster Strategy to overall VMN Strategy
• Meet ad-hoc with other Viacom strategy heads to proactively pursue cross-cluster opportunities
• Contribute in Viacom-wide projects that need of Cluster participation
• Lead the Cluster work within Viacom’s or GEG’s Long Range Planning processes
• Support VIMN COO as required in terms of VMN Strategy needs
Basic Qualifications
• BA/BS degree from top university/college
• Experience in banking or consulting required
• Exposure to media/entertainment or related fields required
• 8+ years of overall work experience
